High value target acquired.

Uh C&P article 9 paragraph 2 is a bit unclear to me.

See, I went on a bit of a murder spree a few months back. What? - They deserved it.

Anyway I’ve got a 10MCr bounty from wherever. So I expect the NPC bounty hunters to appear as per the thread title.

Now, at some point I have decided to prove that I really am the most garbage combat pilot in the galaxy and taken a rebuy off of (I think) an NPC bounty hunter.

But my bloody bounty in Boise Idaho or wherever remains.

I thought under clause B15.42 of C&P that being killed for a bounty cleared that bounty.

What am I missing?

Did they scan you with a KWS? As far as I'm aware that has to be done in order for the kill to be registered as relating to the bounties. At least this applies for human players, I think....do NPC's even use KWS? I dono man

I’m a long way from wherever I got the bounty.

But if a bounty hunter NPC kills me, surely they were chasing me for my bounty.
It’s what they say they are doing.

I think I’ve even seen the inside of a prison in the last few months.

Do your bounties stay even after a stint in the big house?
Why?

Doesn't sound right to me.
My understanding is if you go to gaol, you have to pay everything off.

Mind you, I've not been to one yet so my knowledge is dodgy.

Pretty sure I did.
Nothing to do with the 10MCr bounty. That was a total hit and run. Don’t look back, eh? Too many hungry ghosts following.

So prison would have been for something else. I don’t exactly lead a blameless life.

It’s not the money either - it’s the time. Do I really have to go back to that jurisdiction and hand myself in?
Or
Do I really have to find an anarchic system with an Interpersonal Factotum and pay a what 25% admin fee?
Do I really have to take the same ship there?

I’ve died.
And I’ve gone to prison.
And I did whatever I had to do to get out.
Why do I still have bounties?

Was I in the same ship?
I dunno man, probably not. Ain’t nobody kill me in the Krait - she’s tanked.

It’s like the folks who live on the edge all the time seem to know how to game the system, and us plebs get caught up in this Kafkaesque labyrinth.

The bounty applies to the ship, notoriety applies to you. If it isn't about the money then just go to an interstellar factor & pay it off while your notoriety is at zero.

NPCs currently seem unable to complete a scan unless you are all but parked in front of them. I'd hazard a guess your NPC bounty Hunter never completed the scan.

I just pay them off at the factors myself, once any notoriety has cooled off.

Sometimes I wonder if it'd be worth finding a low-security system with a large orbital and making that my home base just so I don't have to faff around and go elsewhere when I change ships.
I mean sure there's a planetary one right next door but ugh...

Yeh, I also believed that being destroyed by an NPC would reset all your bounties, as well as going to prison (for any crime), so I guess something weird is going on with your bounties. In any case, as someone else may have mentioned, you only need to wait til your notoriety is back down to zero and then find an Interstellar Factors (there's one in Bolg, in our home station, Moxon's Mojo, close to your own home system), hell, one of my guys might even see you and you can test the rebuy screen theory again...? :D Kisses... ;)

Well that was an odd way to end up.
NPC bounty hunter pulls me out on the way to cash in some CZ bonds.
He's enemy faction so I figure his death will help the war.
Wait till he lands a shot on me before opening fire.
Start giving him a kicking.
Suddenly the cops are here and they're red triangles. I've got like 4% hull so I leave Mr NPC and the cops. But now when I dock everything is red. The fine or bounty whatever is 200 Cr but I can't pay it - I'd have to "Hand myself in" So I guess that makes it a bounty. 200Cr.
Anyways there's no way to find out how far the prison will be, and besides I've had a bounty survive prison I think.
So off to INARA - they have a useful page for systems > nearest > Intercostal Fantabulist and it Turns out he's right next door.
Can't see no 200Cr bounty, just the 10MCr one. Pay it and when I go back to finally cash in the CZ bounties I'm clear. But I know the faction I'm fighting this time is not the same as the one with the 10MCr.

Short story long - I have no idea which bits of any of that were me breaking the C&P rules.

I think you got bugged police, on top of all the other weird unfathomable CnP specifics. It happens occasionally, that the police will turn on you for absolutely no reason, since 3.3. It also happens sometimes that a single cop turns red to you (again for some unknown reason), and then people naturally attack a red target, getting wanted and turning the rest of the instance red as well. You did the right thing to simply go to the IF and pay the whole lot off. Job done, for now. Until your next murdering spree. :)

It’s what they say they are doing.

But look at it this way, if there's a NPC or player you're chasing because you "know" in your actual brain that they have a bounty, and you find them in a system outside the jurisdiction where their bounty is, if you kill them without KWScanning them first you won't get the reward, and they will still have the bounty. So if NPC's follow the same rules (who knows), then it would make sense of what happened in the initial scenario. As for all the other things that happend since then....way too much to think about, haha.

Yeah, I've had that in CZs too, occasionally one person on your side will turn red for no readily apparent reason and if you attack them (or have fire at will turrets that hit them, or a fighter on engage-at-will that shoots them) it turns the entire instance hostile.

Definitely had the "single cop apparently has a beef with you even though you're clean" thing as well.

Speak of the devil, right after I made that post. Nice clean legal status and two angry cops. Because... reasons?
