High vs Ultra graphic settings?

What's the difference between ultra and high graphics? I honestly can't see any but I know there is something due to the FPS difference. What are the key differences?

I'm much the same, although FPS is not much different between modes for me. Particle effects such as fog in canyons and entrance to stations is the stand out for me.

With maximum shadows setting (apart from shadows being higher resolution) asteroids in rings cast shadows on other asteroids. This makes quite a big visual and performance difference, especially in icy rings.

I tried using lower shadow setting to get better performance in icy rings but unfortunately it also makes planet and ship shadows significantly uglier. I wish there was a separate setting for shadow resolution and which objects (possibly at what distance too) cast shadows.

Shadows IRL are blurry AF, so yay for lower settings?

Depends on the light source, more specifically its intensity and focus or directness ie has it been diffused by clouds or dust or curtains or lenses, or is it still sharp and focussed.. a dim direct light will cast a sharper shadow than a diffused intense light source. Way back when, I used to work in a dry dock as an engineer fixing ships, when there were welders welding near the parts I was working on the shadows cast by the light off their welding arcs were incredibly sharp, you could see shadows of the individual strands on the frayed threads of my boilersuit cast onto the dock walls. In this game it used to be the case, might not be so anymore, but low shadows were little more than a couple of dingey interconnected triangles (sort of like a guardian obelisk pictogram) in approximately the position of where your ships shadow would have been cast.
