I'll keep this thread updated with a list of the cmdrs that have done it and what their positions are. I'll start the list off with the 2 amazing cmdrs that have recently done it:

1. 379m - CMDR Allitnil, 14058 systems in 61 days
2. 233m - CMDR Omega Prime, 4800 systems in 49 days (he can't remember exactly)
3. 145m - CMDR Marlon Blake, 4300 systems in 51 days
4. 55.19m - CMDR Vatrevelyan, 2993 systems in 26 days

See, CMDR Omeag Prime did it right - he went to where the Black Holes are and scanned them. CMDR Allitnil on the other hand obviously scanned every other system (almost three times as many) and didn't make near as much money.

My journey wasn't just about making money. Some of it was "doing something no one had done before", part was "role play being a trailblazer for future explorers", part "find as much interesting stuff as possible" and only part "make as much money as possible". In the end "visit as many systems as possible" got added to the list above the money one.

Certainly though, if money is your only objective then head to neutron fields, scan as many as you need to reach your goal & head straight back is the optimal approach.

Here are my pre & post selling screenshots. The difference in system count is because I was selling the data at multiple stations in order to gain rep & permits. That boosted the amount a bit which is why I rounded the final figure down to 379m (exact was 379,835,500).

Only able to show 111 million, as I didn't take a screenshot straight away, I was more interested in my progression to Ranger - but final payout was about 130 million.

About 3400 systems visited, about 30 days.

CMDR 'Khal Rayark', back home at last. Was fun, doesnt half feel good when you get back.

Managed to scan the following.

51 Black Holes, 27 Earth Like planets, 74 Water Worlds, 19 Supermassive stars. in total 4119 systems scanned.

Left on Saturday 21st march and returned today Saturday 25th April clocking in 38 days exploring. Spent around 3-4 hours every day.

At last got my Elite status in exploring, "Yeeeeee Hhhaaaaa".

Screen shots below. Jumped from Satva station to Leesti during sales as I forgot about the reputatiuon boost and actually wanted to increase it with the Alliance. Only went to Satva as my canopy was major crooked and wanted to dock as quick as I could.

This was the route that I took on my journey. Was starting to head home up to PREIA due to canopy issue. However changed my mind and headed into the deep agian. However had another canopy issue so headed home.

PS, There needs to be an easier way to sell data. That was horrific. At least if it is going to take 8 hrs or more, have just one click so I can go to the pub and let it do its thing.

Alright, so I have returned to civilization this morning.
I need to sort my shots for good ones before I start posting any (and get numbers for the bodies :eek:), but here are some of the general numbers already:

Total distance travelled: ~65.000 LY
Systems visited total: 4424
Systems visited as first discoverer: ~4100
Daily average: ~120 systems/day

Sales data*:
Total revenue: 200.376.538 cr (204.491.487 cr)*
Total time spent selling data: 4h 20min (total of 221 pages)

average price of system without disco bonus: 32.226 cr
average price of sell page without disco bonus: 644.950 cr
Maximum price for sell page: 1.226.000 cr
Minimum price for sell page: 173.000 cr

daily income: 5.415.582 cr (5.526.797 cr)*
hourly income: 1.755.636 cr (1.791.689 cr)*

* I found that the numbers for actual cr and the numbers for cr by exploration don't add up. I guess I will need to place a ticket and contact FD concerning this... it seems they owe me 4mil.:p

I moved from Theta Pavonis to Xion after ~50% of data sold, so that's where the 2 sys difference comes from. (Dumping all in a single station seemed like a waste...)

That does seem a bit late as I thought Elite was at about 160m. nb: when people are reporting lower than that it is because they had profits from before the exploration payouts were doubled and these earlier are counted double when determining ranks so as not to disadvantage them (eg 50m pre-doubling counts as 100m so only 60m more required & they get Elite at ~110m). I think it can take a few minutes for rank changes to show up so is it possible that you actually went Elite at around 160m but sold a few more pages before it displayed it?

I doubt it had anything to do with the discrepancy between exploration profits & credit balance though as I 'lost' a lot more than 4m. Appears to be just one of the bugs with using the sell page option when you've got a lot of data to sell...

Good points. The lions share of my 43 starting millions was actually from selling data right after 1.2.0.6 (that was the patch for explo data, right?) hit, so the pre 1.2 reasoning certainly makes sense.

Did you report/ticket the discrepancy between balance and explo profits?

Time to throw my own bit in, I got back a few days ago and after selling the data I needed to walk away from ed before I shoved my mouse through the selling data screen lol, single worst part of the game!!!

So, I managed to do 264m from 5599 systems in 58 days, I rolled over to Elite at 160m and I sold the data to 5 or 6 stations making me allied with all 3 :)

I now have a big smug grin on my face for being Elite, well chuffed :D

Congrats, and I agree selling the data is a total pain.
