Highlands Animal Pack - Dreams vs Nightmares

My based dream pack:
  • Mountain Goat
  • Bighorn Sheep
  • Rocky Mountain Elk
  • American Black Bear
  • Canada Lynx
  • American Pika
  • Golden Takin (for diversity)
  • Mangshan Pit Viper (exhibit)
Nightmare pack:
  • Barbary Sheep
  • Wolverine
  • Spectacled bear
  • Pallas cat
  • Himalayan Tahr
  • Andean Mountain Cat
  • Gelada
  • Some salamander or something for exhibit

Dream Mountain Pack:
. Markhor
. Takin
. Hamadryas Baboon
. Pallas Cat
. Wolverine
. Rhea
. Spectacled Bear
. Chinese Giant Salamander Exhibit

Nightmare Mountain Pack:
. Chamois
. Japanese Serow
. Andean Cat
. European Brown Bear
. Alpine Salamander Exhibit

. Some useless scenery

Dream
-Baboon/Gelada
-Takin
-Hyrax
-Marmot
-Monal/Golden pheseant
-Wolverine
-Tree kangaroo

Nightmare
Anything does have a monke and atleast 2 of the rest

Highland Dream Animal Pack
Wolverine
Spectacled Bear
Pallas Cat
Gelada
Markhor (these first five without an exhibit animal would make a wonderful scenery pack)
Takin (any species)
Himalayan Marmot
(don't care about the exhibit animal)

Highland Nightmare Pack
1. No Wolverine would be the biggest nightmare
Now for the lineup.
Spectacled Bear - even in a nightmare situation, I think this almost certain to be included
Markhor - also certain to be included.
Rocky Mountain Goat
Siberian Ibex
Bobcat
Coyote (just because they can fit anywhere doesn't mean they should....but this is a nightmare pack.
Mountain Tapir that resembles an actual Malayan Tapir.

1. Yellow-throated marten
2. Bar-headed goose
3. Gelada
4. Golden takin
5. Yellow-footed rock wallaby
6. Spectacled bear
7. Temminck's tragopan or Himalayan monal
Exhibit. Something colourful - Mangshan pit viper, Andean milk snake, Boelen's python, Kaiser's spotted newt, don't particularly care which.

I don't have a specific nightmare pack but for the love of god, give me something with colour - just another seven boring brown animals would be soul-destroying.

Dream:
  1. Yellow-footed Rock-wallaby
  2. Gelada
  3. Yellow-throated Marten
  4. Himalayan Tahr
  5. Aoudad
  6. Lesser Rhea
  7. Himalayan Monal
  8. Southern Corroboree Frog [E]
Nightmare:
  • No aoudad or rock-wallaby
  • Wolverine + Pallas cat + spectacled bear all in the same pack (another carnivoran trio, none of which particularly interest me)
  • Cold climate caprines only (caprines are pretty important for a mountain pack but I’d rather representation for more diverse climates)
So my nightmare is pretty likely lol

Would you guys mind if I turned this into a Highlands Ultimate Wishlist as an add on to the D vs N ideas? I’d just be combining everyone’s dream pack animals and counting up the votes.

I think my only nightmare scenario would be getting snub-nosed monkey over baboon/gelada. Otherwise, I can't see myself being upset at any roster.

Dream:
  • Animals from mountainous regions all over the world: American highlands, Andes, Himalayas, African mountainous regions, and maybe the alps.
  • My specific animal preferences:
    • Andean/Spectacled Bear
    • Wolverine
    • Golden Takin
    • Hamadryas Baboon OR Gelada
    • American Bighorn Sheep
    • Markhor
    • Rock Hyrax
    • Exhibit: Wood Frog or Tiger Salamander (I don’t know, this one was difficult to figure out.)
  • If we finally get aviaries, I hope to get an Andean Condor. That’d be a great way to kick it off.
What I’d be okay with but not too excited for:
  • If we get new scenery, I’d at least be curious. I think maybe some Himalayan, Tibetan, or Nepali scenery could be cool. I’ve been to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and the Expedition Everest rollercoaster has some neat Nepali scenery.
  • Marmots of any kind
  • Rocky Mountain Goat
  • I’d enjoy a rhea, but I’d prefer if Frontier saved it for a Latin America Pack.
Nightmare:
  • I think the Pallas’s Cat is overrated.
  • Another Lynx - It’d be too similar to the Eurasian Lynx, but considering how a small wildlife refuge near where I live houses bobcats, I can be talked into them.
Hot Take(s):
  • I wouldn’t mind if we don’t get a wolverine. If anything, that could increase the chances of us receiving it in a Woodlands Pack.

Dream: (Assuming wolverine comes in a polar/tundra pack and ABB is somewhere else, too!)
  1. Spectacled Bear
  2. Darwin's Rhea
  3. Pallas's Cat
  4. Markhor
  5. Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo
  6. Hamadryas Baboon
  7. Bighorn Sheep
  8. Exhibit: Eagles, with the bald eagle if I have to pick one, but I'd also like the Harpy and Golden Eagle to cover other regions. Steller's Sea Eagle is also cool.
  9. Potential Alternates: Golden Snub Nosed Monkey, Golden Pheasant, Yellow Footed Rock Wallaby, Yellow Throated Marten
It's got 2 decently requested things for SA, a meme animal, a distinctive goat for cover art, 2 top 10 animals, a cheap clone (which I really want), and some birds. For underrepresented taxon diversity, there is a primate, at least 2 birds, a marsupial, and 2 caprines. For regional diversity, there are 2 from SA, 1 from Africa, 2.5 from Asia, 1 from NA, and 1 from Oceania. Sorry Europe, but most of the animals I want/are popular aren't really mountain-specific. Hot arid, tropical, and taiga biomes are represented. I feel like this pack would be fun.

Nightmare: I would still probably buy it, though
  1. Gelada: Not a bad pick, but to me, it seems like a less-useful baboon
  2. Himalayan Monal: I'm just not a huge fan of this bird. I feel like the sheen on the feathers will look weird, and I strongly prefer other Asian pheasants (i.e. Golden, Lady Amherst's)
  3. Alpine Marmot: Not one of my favorite picks for a European critter (martens all the way, or perhaps otters, wild cats, rabbits?)
  4. Giant Salamander: I might like them enough in an exhibit, but they scare me as a habitat animal
  5. Any random 4x4 exhibit critter: birds, please, or if not possible, at least let it be something cool/useful like a chameleon.
  6. Tibetan/Nepal scenery: I actually wouldn't mind it, but there are too many cool alpine animals, and the theme is too niche

I’d like for frontier to try and spread out the animals so it doesn’t seem one continent is getting more then another (I know some times it has to)
1. Coastal mountain goat
2. Andean Bear
3. Capercaillie
4. Gelada
5. Markhor
6. Takin
7. Lyre bird
WE koi pond with a set of 4 koi

If scenary
Markhor
Andean Bear
Gelada
Capercaillie
I agree that a kind of design like at animal kingdoms Nepal section

Nightmare
An easy reskin of a type of animal
Grouping animals into just one region

My dream pack would first and foremost contain Wolverine. Second thing I would like to see as much as possible diversity in regions, taxonomy and models and in theory this theme could pull it off.

I won't spend much words on any of them, they are all more or less pretty popular here, but if anyone wonders about any animals I'll try my best to "sell" my picks to them.

1. Wolverine (Rockies, Weasel)

2. Spectacled Bear (Andes, Bear)

3. Markhor (Himalayas, Goat)

4. Sichuan Takin (Tibetan Plateau, Sheep?)

5. Gelada (Simien Mountains, Monkey)

6. Alpine Marmot (Alps, Rodent)

7. Rock Hyrax (Table Mountain, Hyrax?)

8. Common Adder (E) (Dinaric Alps, Viper)

Nightmare pack is always tricky for me in these themes. I don't think I could craft realistic nightmare pack without stretching it. Maybe anything with too much of Asia focus. I know it's needed but the animals I would look for the most in these packs (Wolverine, Bear, Gelada, Marmot, Hyrax) aren't from Central Asia. So maybe something like this:

1. Markhor - (Realism pick, nothing against it)

2. Golden Takin - (Less preferred species, might as well when it's Nightmare)

3. Pallas Cat - (It's just not doing it for me)

4. Himalayan Monal - (Never heard of this bird before joining the forum, too niche to fit any general theme imo)

5. Tibetan Antelope - (If I recall correctly poor captivity presence)

6. Himalayan Tahr - (On the other hand very common and distributed animal, but would feel redundant in this kind of pack)

7. Golden Snub Nosed Monkey - (There are just better picks in every sense)

8. Giant Salamander (E) - (This one's personal, I just wouldn't use it)

Note that not all picks are nightmare, I'm still trying to go for realistic composition

And I want to add what I feel like is somewhat realistic expectations for this pack. Combination of popular animals in community, popular animals on the internet, some easy clones and some left field picks:

1. Markhor

2. Pallas Cat

3. Spectacled Bear

4. Mountain Goat

5. Domestic Yak

6. Guanaco/Vicuña

7. Rocky Mountain Elk

8. Some type of Frog (E) -

Umm is not a pack i'm dying for. If we get boreal or taiga instead i would be fine with it but i guess My dream roster would be:

1. Markhor
2. Takin
3. Pallas cat
4. Spectacled bear
5. Golden pheasant
6. Golden snub nosed monkey or gelada
7. Yellow footed rock wallaby
8. Ex: giant chinese salamander (or any bird if WTE, a true dream would be the andean condor)

A nightmare scenario would be a pack with a heavy NA or European roster. No bird at all would be dissapointed as well but something to be expected.

But i'm open to getting martens and hyraxes. Even the Wolverine even though i don't think this is the best fit for it.

Dream
  1. Hamadryas baboon.
  2. Barbary sheep.
  3. Japanese serow.
  4. Himalayan monal.
  5. European wildcat.
  6. Rock hyrax.
  7. Spectacled bear.
  8. Chinese giant salamander (EX).
Nightmare
  1. Bighorn sheep/rocky mountain goat.
  2. Some kind of elk.
  3. Alpaca (or vicuna or guanaco).
  4. Golden snub-nosed monkey.
Most of the other picks I'm neutral-to-positive about (markhor, gelada, golden pheasant, takin, so on). I just don't want North American animals, another domestic camelid (and IMO although guanaco and vicuna are neat they are really at the bottom of my list of wants), or another super-rare monkey.

Edit: Changed my cat. Can't believe I forgot the cat I actually want for a pack like this.

Chad pack featuring both cloud forests and montane grasslands:
  • Matschie's Tree Kangaroo
  • Colombian Red Howler
  • Spectacled Bear
  • Helmeted Curassow
  • Takin
  • Chinese Goral
  • Rock Hyrax
  • Veiled Chameleon
Masculine pack featuring 3 SA animals, two being monke and bird, usefull standard exhibit, interesting surprise picks such as goral and hyrax.

Realistic nightmare: another wholesome ungulora pack + something, also featuring dumb exhibit such as mangshan viper.

  1. Wolverine
  2. Andean bear (or American black bear)
  3. Markhor
  4. Takin

This is fun!
My dream pack:
  • Markhor
  • Takin
  • Alpine Marmot
  • Spectacled Bear
  • Pallas Cat
  • Mara
  • Barbary Sheep
  • Japanese Giant Salamander (Or Chinese, no problem)
I would also be thrilled with the following:
Mountain goat, Guanaco or Vicuña, Yak, Woolly monkey, Woolly tapir, Rhea, Japanese Serow, Chamois, Argali, Bharal
Low priority: alpaca- because I would prefer a wild camelid from SA this time :)

My nightmare pack:
1. A mountain pack without the Spectacled Bear 😢
2. Gelada -I personally wouldn't use them; to me, all baboons have a scary vibe, and I don't enjoy them. But if they come in this pack, I'm happy for those hoping for this species.
3. Andean Flamingos - I wouldn't use them in zoos. I like the real flamingos, but they aren't enjoyable for me in the game. Their only food enrichment item is huge, ugly, and hard to place. They are also easy to stress despite not being marked as shy.
