Highlands (or whatever) Animal Pack: Dream vs. Nightmare Scenarios

You know the drill. I'm all but certain that the upcoming pack is highlands/mountains and not a broader Asia theme, but feel free to speculate either way. And I know we did this last year, but that was pre-Eurasia and various things have changed since then, so it's worth running it back. I'll make lists for both highlands and Asia, even though again, I'm very confident it's the former.. Worth noting is that while the cat and baboon would've been on my dream roster regardless of their actual inclusion, and the markhor would've been at least under consideration for my dream list, so we're off to a strong start.

I think this roster would dethrone Grasslands as my favorite pack. Beyond the obligate carnivores and ungulate, it's got a marsupial, a bird, a monkey, and a hyrax. And best of all, it doesn't feel all too unfeasible, beyond just a general sense of never getting something so personally satisfying (and the inevitability that in reality, we'll get Goodfellow's before Matschie's).

Species rare in captivity outside of their ranges are always a red flag for me, and excessive ungulates isn't a great look either. I will say that as one of the GSNM's more vocal haters, I'm considerably more open to it now that we're at least getting a really, really good monkey as well, but not enough to take it off of the naughty list.

Golden pheasant sticks around, and if you're giving me the opportunity to be greedy for monkeys I'm taking it. Almost went blackbuck over muntjac, those could go either way but I'm currently in a muntjac mood.

Just more obscure species I have little interest in seeing. Also, for the sake of conversation since I just typed the word "Sumatran", you know what big cat "clone" I would've preferred a thousand times over the African leopard? The Sumatran tiger! I wouldn't have been thrilled to get it, but I would've been decently satisfied!

Highlands Dream Scenario:

Plus the Pallas cat, Markhor, and Hamadryas that are obviously coming, though in a dream scenario I’d ditch the first two in a heartbeat for a rock hyrax, and maybe another addition to South America, like a Spectacled bear. (I don’t mind them and don’t think they’re bad picks though, just hope the rest of the pack ends up being more diverse to cover for them).

I know three birds is mostly unrealistic for Frontier despite how distinct those three are, but at least one of them is a “clone” of sorts. Plus, it’s a dream I can do what I want lol.

Highlands Nightmare Scenario:
  • The hamadryas ends up being the only non ungulate/carnivoran habitat animal
  • No bird(s)
  • Someone at Frontier actually does end up deciding that the Tibetan antelope is somehow a good pick.

Asia Dream Scenario
  • Victoria Crowned Pigeon
  • Bar Headed Goose
  • Lion-Tailed Macaque
  • Hamadryas Baboon
  • Either a blackbuck or a muntjac species, the only two ungulates left at this point that I can actually get somewhat excited over, but I wouldn’t want both at once.
I don’t mind the cat and the markhor here as much as in Highlands, but I’d totally ditch one or the other to throw the monal back in there, as unrealistic as it is.

Nightmare Scenario is pretty much the same as Highlands.

8. Tree kangaroo (not really really high in my list but is something interesting and different) but i'll personally prefer something like a yellow footed rock wallaby.

Nightmare:

Mmm idk tbh most mountain animals are cool but i guess stuff like the Alpine marmot, mountain goat and yak don't excite me much but are not to terrible either. I guess the guanaco would also be quite boring but i would find use for it. Kilspringer i guess is also cute and fun but at the same time kind of underwhelming.

Idk why people dislike Ethiopian Wolf so much? Its not any more of a clone than the AWM or the African Leopard. And the saiga is not found in captivity either.
and as far as being a fourth "wolf" goes people are fine with another penguin... IMO, Coyote would be more of a Highlands pack nightmare than Ethiopian Wolf. Simply because we already have two canids from the Coyote's range.

At least Coyote is in captivity, the Saiga was and is still in captivity, penguins are all different while each wolf canid is just recolored. Only one I like is the dhole and African painted dog.

To me, penguins look as similar to each other as wolves. Bat-eared Fox is probably found in more zoos than the Coyote. Also, Coyote is genetically almost the epitome of Wolf canid. Someone on the forums claimed that the Wolf is genetically more similar to the Coyote than some of the Leopard subspecies are to each other.

I would gladly take the bat eared fox, I’d rather have it over the leopard.

Honorary mention to the aoudad, which I would be thrilled to see but would replace the markhor in my actual dream pack. Also the spectacled bear, not an animal I'm particularly clamouring for but I think they'd fit great here as long as the rest of the pack is diverse enough.

Nightmare:
  • please don't do arid animal pack again frontier. dont.

  • Eagles as exhibit animals or realistically scenery (including a horizontal log set) instead of an exhibit animal
  • Honorable mention: bighorn sheep because I want to make a Grand Canyon habitat for them
Highlands Nightmare:
  • Marmot: If this really is the best choice for the somewhat desired European critter, I don't really mind it, but it seems boring compared to some of the other options.
  • Chamois/mouflon: We've gotten a lot of European ungulates lately.
  • Guanaco/vicuna: I'm tired of ungulates and have enough camelids.
  • Tahr/serow/yak: I actually kind of like these, but I don't want another ungulate overload.
  • Some weird oddball exhibit animal with little to no zoo presence

-Atleast one "misc mammal", marmot, hyrax, yellow throated marten, treekangaroo
-Super secret dream: mount kilimanjaro guereza

Nightmare:
Honestly since the baboon, which always was the make or break species of a mountain pack for me is already confirmed, my nightmare scenario is kinda already averted.
- the remaining 4 animals being 3 further ungulates plus bear
