This is another my long held idea which I guess need to lay down before I forget about it again.
ED is open world game. It means there's lot of do but there's no much directions to be shown in game. While station interface for example have a long way and tells and informs users way more than in the past, I still see lot of things that can be used to 'hint' users for some things they could discover.
One example is NPC chatter. We already have traffic control, which actually gives interesting suggestions for approaching station. This could extend even further. NPCs discussing outfitting options, system changes (some stuff is already there, but needs to be more extensive).
Another thing is some random bits added to the news. Information by end of famine might give hints players what recovering systems might buy best.
