Ships Hints and Tips for newcomers and above.

It is always a struggle to earn credits to upgrade your ship. No sooner have you bought that shiny new ship you have to earn enough to buy better modules and keep enough for the increased insurance costs.
The simple solution is wait before upgrading. There comes a point with any ship when the money comes rolling in. It is almost as if you earn just by flying and it adds up quicker.
That is what I’ve found and I pass it on.

I say once you are flying in a ship, keep it upgraded as much as possible as frequently as possible. Just make sure to always have enough for insurance rebuy.

That being said, I do recommend waiting on purchasing a new ship until you have enough to *at least* C grade it.

I'd agree with Kaybe for sure when it comes to the insurance rebuy, and I know some people like the Eagle as a first upgrade but I found it a bit too fragile - It was almost a perma-death ship wjile I was in it (I know, maybe I just suck as a pilot too). There's a reason the Sidewinder is your introductory ship, it's very flexible within it's limitations. just upgrade the Power Distribution asap and then upgrade your ship beyond the Eagle (I'm quite impressed by the Cobra Mk3, at least relative to the Eagle).

One early days cash generation technique I've used so far is to go to a low resource site, follow the Federal patrol ships and help them take down any wanteds and cash the bounties. Sure seems more lucrative than intial level trading runs :)

I have a rule that I very rarely break - don't buy it if you can't A spec it :) Exceptions were mining/exploration Anaconda. Even then I've had enough to have best loadout for the job. Surely it will take you longer to get new ships, but it's a quality of life thing that will make your playtime oh so much more comfortable.
