Hire two AI crew members?

Pretty limited as all an AI can do is fly a fighter or the ship while the player flies a fighter. Could I hire two where one flies a fighter, one flies the main ship and I'm flying a fighter. Nope! Any players hired two AI crew with positive results? Maybe Odyssey will update this or not.

If I remember correctly in Frontier: Elite II you had to hire 12 crew members to fly a Panther Clipper! They were a lot cheaper.

I used to keep a depth chart after losing an elite crewman to a thargoid back before you could rebuy the crew. Now my 2 pilots are just a vestigial legacy of those days. Maybe in odyssey there will be a use. Its tough to fire high ranked pilots knowing what a pain it is to train them up.
 
What Trolly said, except I fired my extras (they weren't as high ranked as my primary). When crewmembers died on the ship, spares were necessary. Today--no reason to keep multiple money sinks on the payroll.
 
With billions in credits paying a crew member is not a issue. Still I don't like to spend more than needed. Here's a chart showing what a crew member will eventually cost per the level that they are hired.

I have 2 "Elite" NPCs as crew members... both trained all the way from "Harmless"
Keeping them both hoping Odyssey would grant us the possibility to fly with them in a wing or having both at once on fighters... maybe even send them in one of my ships to fetch mats, tritium, etc like Fortnite Save the World has "Expeditions" you send some of your heroes with a "success chance" depending on the asset level and difficulty of the task at hand.

So, yeah... one can only dream...
 
Hopefully now with player taxi service we can hire two and even have one auto pilot if we need it (Nice alternative to avoiding modules use if you can afford the credit and xp hit) and also for the situation Hooplah describes.
