Newcomer / Intro Hiring crew: When do they cost you money

Let's say i have a large ship and i decide to hire some crew. The general questions is "when are they paid? - i.e. get the profit-share percentage they requested when i hired them".

1. Will they cost me money if they are at the lounge, not assigned to a ship (inactive)?
2. Will they cost me money when they are assigned to a ship but my current ship is another?
3. How are they "paid" (i've never tried hiring crew)? When for instance i execute a mission, will i automatically see that the crew gets their percentage and i get what remains or i have to manually perform some action?

They take a percentage of everything you make, no matter where they are assigned (or not assigned). They take 1/2 of your combat experience when they are active, as well.

So they are paid every time you make credits, no matter where or how.

And that means what? That the "combat rank" slider for instance will rise at 1/2 pace than if i had no crew?

Exactly this. But only if the NPC actually participates in the kill. So simply don't deploy the SLF, and you'll get normal XP.

Ah, ok then, thanks for the info.

If you are uninterested in combat it is quite feasible to hire the best SLF pilot you can then sack them before you cash in so you only pay the hiring fee not the percentage.

As the NPC ranks up the percentage they take increases based on where they started so starting with the lowest ranked means that when they reach Elite they will charge less than one that you hired with a higher rank.
