HMD Quality versus SS in settings?

Hey gang,

So after some initial grief getting it going, I am now currently learning this game with an Oculus Rift, really looks great in VR! I think I am really going to like ED. Slowly making my way through some of the training missions.

I was looking in the graphics settings earlier - I am currently running SS at 1.5 in the game, and my performance seems fine and it looks nice.
I also notice a little further down the graphics list, was an HMD Quality setting, with similar numeric settings for it as SS has.

What are the difference between those two?

Thanks for any tips,

Hey dburne. Welcome to Ed. SS is the game's normal SS routines regardless of being in VR mode or 2D mode. HMD is an in game pixel density control aka Oculus debug or Tray tool. Recommend only changing HMD and leaving SS at 1.0 (default).

Ah good to know, I will change it back to 1.0 and set my HMD to 1.5 then, thanks.

Not sure of the difference between HMD and SS. Both involve pushing more pixels. Have tried both together and the picture and performance is definitely worse. If I had to describe the difference it would be that HMD produces a noticeably sharper picture if you can get it around 1.5 or higher. I run HMD at 2.0 and SS at 1.0.

Thanks for the feedback!
I will experiment around with it later today.

I think there is no difference in quality (I didnt seen any) and for FPS its exactly the same. Doesnt matter if you have SS 1 and HMD 1.5 or SS 1.5 and HMD 1 you will end up with the same FPS and quality.
Same applies for steamVR SS

Yeah I changed SS back to 1.0 and set HMD Quality to 1.5, looks pretty much the same.

Speaking of performance, is there an FPS monitor in the game?

For best image both static and moving in my experience
HMD SS 1.0
All ultra settings except AO off.

Run Oculusdebug from the same folder as the exe file
Set pixel density to 2.0
ASW auto.

Never dips below 90 FPS with ASW on.
Just minor tearing of hud lines is the trade off

This is the optimal setting for me.

There is but since 3.0 its not working.

Ah ok then, will wait for the fix.
Can it be assigned to a button? Not sure I ever saw it looking through the controller menu.
