Hmm, odd performance issues.

So, I dusted of ED and jumped back in to live, in Open. Cuz' whatever. I'm flying a cheap ship for lolz. I don't care.

Hopped in my iCanoe, and set course to upgrade the engines and FSD at Decait.
Supercruise and stations are fine, but for some reason, I now get some weird kind of "lag" on planets, and my FPS drops to exactly 30fps. (From 60fps).

I tweaked some options (set shadows to medium, and AA off) and my FPS went back to a smooth 60fps.

But, I get some kind of lag when flying fast (580~m/s), it feels like rubber banding, even if I'm alone, and makes control difficult. FPS remains at 60 the entire time, but non of my controls feel smooth anymore.
I can't record a video, because as soon as I do, my FPS tanks and it becomes impossible to notice.
But a smooth 90° pitch or roll, feels stuttery.

Jump back to supercruise, and normal space (in space) and it's fine again.

My textures also keep going all "muddy" despite being set to medium.
Non of this happened the last time I played, a few months ago.

Help?

I'm using a GTX 770 2Gb.

In other news, I crashed my iCanoe twice at Decait trying to boost around the canyon and bridges.
I'd like to blame the stuttering entirely. But that would be lies. Lol
1.2m down the drain already. And I'm sure any CMDRs lurking around enjoyed the fireball (s)...!

Has Windoze 10 done a big update recently?

It did, conveniently while I was installing something. Then rebooted without permission. Lol
But, ED was running smooth before then.

Please try to disable Vsync and frame limiter and see if it helps.

I'll try next time.

I'm sure last time I played I was using high detail shadows and SMAA, and still getting 45~fps on a planet near a base.

But the same settings today got me just 30fps. Which is perfectly playable.
But the weird stuttering / lag makes low level flying rather awkward. Lol

Locking from 60 to exact 30 FPS totally sounds like Vsync. What you describe as 'but non of my controls feel smooth anymore' can also be caused by Vsync because there are lags when game, monitor and controls need to get synchronised. The game is 'skipping' some frames in order to be synchronised with your refresh rate, at these moments your controls are unresponsive as well.

Check to see if there are some new settings to do with recording game footage. I forget exactly what it's called but it will be obvious once you go into the settings. Once in there turn the new game related recording settings off.

Thanks guys!
It's fixed. Windows had re-enabled the game DVR, which seemed to sap a bit of performance, which was mostly noticeable on planets.

I also disabled V-SYNC and the frame limiter, which stopped all the odd laggy stuttering. I can also set the game to high, at 1080p, and maintain 60fps on a planet near a base now.
I get 130fps in space though, which adds a bit of tearing.

Now I just need to set my custom FoV up again because I feel like I'm pressed against the window. Lol

Excellent news. I hate the way Windows 10 re-enables some settings after a big update.
It's always worth going through all the settings to check this and also to see if any new settings have been introduced because they are always on by default.
