They were all used for target practice...
It is now 3100 and it is ok to talk about these things from the past. We now know that things like the moon landings, the ISS and anything space related in the 20th and 21st century, were faked, to keep the masses entertained and cover the cost of governments. We all know that so called satellite communications were faked by, drilling massive cables through the earth, and only in the late 21st and early 22nd century, did man really work out how to break the Earth's gravity and the real quests into space, began.

Actually, recent studies indicate that the moon landing indeed was faked, in a studio built on a moon of Saturn, using secret Frameshift-capable spacecraft that were constructed as part of a cooperation between the Americans, the Soviet Union and the Thargoids. The satellites were also faked, as the same technology led to easy FTL communication to any point in the solar system. These so-called ''satellites'' were only used as an explanation for the moving lights (these are actually what supercruise wakes look like from the surface of a planet). Scientists at the time claimed that these lights actually came from sunlight reflected off these spacecraft, which we today know would be an impossibility, since these spacecraft obviously would be outside your rendering distance.
