HOLD POSITION - Not a priority, but…

Given the fact that this “Hold position” bug way reported way back in the beta, and also the fact that it is still present now, and also the fact that the Frontier QA Team inquires now “Was this happening in space or near planets?” ( https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/300773-NPC-Crew-Will-Not-Hold-Position ) I cannot help myself wonder if:

Was/ is this function anything more than a placeholder/ button right now? - LATER EDIT: It seems that this is the case for some of us.

Please excuse me for being suspicious, but this is a feature I was/ am really looking toward, like others, and my disappointment grows by the day. However, although it seems to be a desired feature (based on the feedback here and in beta) it still seems to be a good way away.

I’d be very glad to have a confirmation that this is a priority for the next patch. Because this was the only thing that would have made me log in the game in this period of “fixing”. Sincerely, I always go exploring (although for modest amounts of time) for a minimum of 2 weeks every time an update is deployed, afraid to lose considerable credits and subsequently precious amounts of time invested in the game due to the already familiar early bugs/ instakills aso happening during this period.
Evidently, planeside sightseeing and exploration in my ship launched interceptor would have filled this period. But I am afraid to get out there and indulge in such a delightful experience because my Anaconda flies erratically and dangerously close to the ground, sometimes bumping on the surface topography (with an expert crew member at the helm).

I'd very much like to log in. But there is no incentive for me right now after browsing the forums. Anyone else experiencing the same?

No - it is intentional. i.e. you hide your ship and tell it to wait.

I had much better success if:

* the NPC flies the fighter, and;
* you give commands slowly, and WAIT FOR THE TEXT STATUS TO REFLECT THE LAST COMMAND before issuing the next.

was wondering myself, hold position means like 'stay thereand dont move' but regardless it just follows you around, annoying :/ pls fix!!

I gave commands as slow as it gets, like one command every several minutes. It was called "Hold position". :) Nothing happened. Nothing! It is not working CMDR, and I'm really wondering if there is some code in the bg for this task (besides the one displaying the button).

That's strange. I gave that exact order to my NPC above the Alien ruins, while I zipped around in the Condor. It stayed exactly where I asked it to until I requested docking.
So for me it works exactly as advertised, but maybe there are conditions where it does not?

Thank you. That's reassuring. I wish I had your crew. Mine's nonchalantly disobeying orders.

Weirdly I do not have this issue, but I was in Mobius around the new structures and saw cmdr's having trouble with their ships not staying put!

I hire only the best...novices :)

Could it be that the people having problems are seeing their NPCs avoiding others flying around? I noticed my NPC did "dodge" when I approached my own ship. Could it be a collision-avoidance code that is a bit too aggressive?

Are those having this problem staying within the Max distance between the Ship and SLF? Is this just a case of the SLF staying within the range it requires to operate?

Yes - I have seen this! If you are near max range, the ship WILL follow you to help prevent its destruction/loss. It starts doing this at 25 km, and flies to within 20 km before stopping. You also get your crew member calling you over the radio.

I haven't seen it move when inside 20 km at least.

Out of interest - are you in the main ship or the fighter? It seems the behavior changes, depending.

If you're in the fighter:

* Your main ship WILL follow you, to help prevent fighter destruction

If you're in the main ship:

* The fighter may or may not follow (I think it follows).

Nothing around my ship besides me in the fighter. And I was quite far (2000 or so), so it shouldn't trigger the collision avoidance. Although the ship should avoid everyone else but me, if it is to ask me. What if I want to have a close pass for visual inspection? For me at least, "Hold position" should be only hold position without collision avoidance.

Better put in a bug report. Ive seen this happen to another CMDR and now it's happening to me as of last night. It's hugely annoying as I was hoping to be able to skim planet surfaces just like the OP.
