True, but there are impracticalities with eating mince pies through a space visor or wearing a Christmas jumper over your flight suit.

The mince pies could be a problem, but Christmas jumpers? Aren't they all made to a pattern that ensures they're at least five sizes too big and have one or more sleeve too many? All the ones I ever got were...

If they can do it with turkey and gravy they can do it with mince pies:

Rule 1 of Christmas in space: Under no circumstances should you try to flambéed a Xmas pudding in the cockpit of a Sidewinder.

Hello Frontier,
I was wondering if you were going to be releasing any holiday events which result in holiday cosmetics. I've noticed from playing a few MMO its quite a standard practice and was hoping you would do the same.

The Events themselves can be broken done into small tasks you have to complete like hunting certain wanted ships, trading certain cargo or even mining certain materials related to the public holiday.

What does the community think?

Would you complete the holiday events for special cosmetics only available during the holiday?

Yes. It's called Horizons!!!

This is how it goes: See how fast you can get back to the bubble from the other side of the Galaxy so that you can get your planetary landings module fitted at a shipyard...

<ducks>

Thinking about it and how Fd is really into the whole, Xmas, Holidays Season thing. They should give all of us loyal players; the ones that 1st brought the retail game and stayed in spite of all the issues, a free ship token. A use once, in exchange for any ship, we can find. Just as a nice gesture.

No , I hate holiday events.
they often if not allways ruin the integrety of the game , ruining the lore and core ambiance for something that does not fit the current universe.

For example , last year there was a simple happy xmass thing on GalNet , but it was good because it was just that , stating that in 3301 most dont even do Xmass becaus its a thing of the past.

I dont want elite full of boring holloween crap and all that nonsens , some GalNet flavor text yes (as long as they say its not a major event)

Religion is alive and well in the E: D galaxy. Van Maanens star is permit only because of the religious enclave there. You could even say that the Empire and all its basking is showing signs of becoming a proto-religion.
Yes but the core religion of today are not as popular in elite , thats why Xmass is not a big deal and most (like today) celebrate it as a fun event and not a religious thing

Yeah, let's add the obligatory Easter/Thanksgiving/Halloween/Christmas/etc. event, because apparently every game needs them. Let's say in the form of community goals! Easter egg hunt (scoop them up in USS)! Prepare a feast for Thanksgiving (deliver food)! Trick or treat (pirate from traders transporting candy)! Help Santa Clause at the North Pole... I mean Sagittarius A* (special outpost in orbit around the big black hole, gives missions to deliver presents into the bubble)!

As if the these holidays weren't annoying enough in real-life... :p

My point was that while observance of 'Christmas' may be rare, there are in game religions, cultures and societies that are ripe for using as the basis for festivals/events that aren't connected to any 'real life' equivalent. While there's isn't much in E: D game lore to support your suggestion that the 'core religion of today are not popular in elite', it's possible that this lack of information (as well as that concerning the 'old' Earth nations) is deliberate to avoid the inevitable arguments that would arise.

What year is ED set in? 3100AD? There will always be a reference to Christ's Mass, AD = After dinner?

I believe it's set in 3301 CE ;) In 1300 years though, Christ's Mass might be usurped by another festival like the original Roman feast day was before it.
The festival of Saturn, was an event were the masters and slaves changed places. Yes; I am up for the plastic Princess serving me for a change.
