Holy crap Batman

I logged in after 1.2 update and am in the Tammark sector clearing pirates. I have been clearing them for four days. HOLY CRAP I get ambushed in my first encounter by three vultures who all fire on me at once.......dead.
I go to work, clear my head and wonder what the hell a vulture is. I get home from work, read over some of the update data and then jump back on. My first encounter I am ambushed again, this time by an Anaconda, two vultures and to cobras..... four firing on me at once, I am nervous going in so I haul ass out of there and barely escape.

Is this the new look of bounty hunting? I have a cobra that is fairly well equipped and I do not stand a chance in these encounters. Buying a new ship every four or five encounters is definately not worth it. What gives?

Sounds like its time to get some friends involved ;) Make it an even match!

If it's a strong signal source, you can be guaranteed that there will be multiple ships waiting for you in there. Sometimes though they're not always hostile. Some are unannounced security checkpoints (jump in, multiple security vessels, immediate scan). Some are pirates (you're scanned and if you don't have cargo, they'll leave you be), some are "honey traps" (multiple cannisters of cargo, as soon as you start scooping them you're jumped) and some are just psychos ;).

Weak signal source, same sort of thing with less ships.

Unidentified signal source, as they were before.

If you're just hunting around a NB or RES, then pay attention to your target info. It will tell you if they are a member of a wing.

Bounty hunting is defiantly a crowd thing now, no more lone hunters. This is one of the reasons I will sell my Viper when I get back from my exploring trip.

Not really correct. I did solo BH last night for a good few hours. As long as you pay attention to the new cues FDev has given us in relation to a target, you can still BH solo (ie, don't enter a SSS and don't attack any NPCs that are in a wing).

Yes the strong signal sources are not for the feint of heart!

I popped into one during the beta and came up against an elite conda and his 6 wingmen (cobras/asps and 1 eagle)
I shot at the eagle then bravely ran away.

I need some friends before I do that again!

Problem is to me the funnest part of this game was solo Bounty Hunting, I have no clue on how to "Group Hunt" and I bought the game because when I played the old versions I loved to solo hunt. So my question is: Is this the only way to bounty hunt now? If so it looks like I wasted $60.00.

I beg to differ - I've been solo bounty hunting in Open the last 2 days throughout the patches (with a maxed cobra) and haven't died yet (came close once though in a 3 on 1 moment). I am loving the new system. You have to be more careful now, watch your back, and sometimes run. Bounty hunting is fun again, instead of a grind. Hurrah for the Devs!

Stick at it and be careful until you get used to it, and I think you'll be pleased with how much more fun it is.

p.s. I'm finding more and larger targets at my Nav points too - which is always very welcome. I even bagged by first wanted FerDL today, courtesy of the Crimson Drug empire. Still looking for a Vulture to roast. ;)

I freaking love this it's actually challenging now.
I went 1v5 anacondas last night man that was fun.
its good to finally be able to give my conda a workout.
Group up with some friends and have a go. the swarms of like 8 vultures are what's scary. That's a lot of hornets with bazookas. Love this update.

You can bounty hunt alone with a good ship, nicely kitted out Python can survive strong signal sources. You will get beaten up pretty bad, but repairs are cheap. You also need to know when to run.

I really enjoy SSS in a wing, but it's amazing going up against overwhelming odds alone and managing to somehow win.. Limping home alone on life support with rebooted systems makes you feel like you have achieved something, especially after you claim the bounty

Sure there is. I spent an hour yesterday at NB in Tanmark. Was pretty interesting. If you are beginning, go to a secure system and hunt at the nav beacon there. There will be wings of local security forces to fight on your side. Once you progress, move on to more challenging places - anarchies, RESs, strong signal sources.

One thing I noticed, that if you kill the biggest ship in the wing, the rest tend to turn tail. Happened to me yesterday twice - small sample, but shows a tendency. Got into a tussle with an Anaconda and two Vipers. Killed 'Conda, both Vipers fled. Got attacked by a Clipper and two Adders, once again, after Clipper died, Adders bolted.

We have been given wings far too soon. both wing and the new coms need to have a rethink, (too many buttons on both, and the percentage of enemies encounter's as wings my be to high)

Exactly! It's fun to go solo into a bar fight and whoop up on some bruisers and come out a bloody mess. The repair cost change means I can still have fun if not more fun when or if the shields go down.
Wish they were more common tbh

Has anyone run across a wing of NPCs yet that has just one of the members wanted? Part of me says that wouldn't make sense, but then again, maybe they were flying together and the others never researched the guy's history. I do wish you could use the KWS in supercruise, then a scenario like that would make even more sense.

But to add to the topic, I also lone hunt in a Cobra, and I like having to pick my battles a bit more carefully. I've won a few group fights, and ran from a few too.

Well with my fully kitted out Fel De Lance I survive strong signal source, it hell of a lot of fun and took down more ships than I could keep count off, that one hell of a bounty hunter ship.

Now few more months of exploration and trading with a few missions I might be able to afford one in the real game and not the beta.

I solo hunted for hours last night without issue. If in Nav Beacons or Extraction you can still solo..

Strong single sources are designed for Wings though.

Seen it multiple times last night..and the wings didn't attack me either..instead they ran (probably not designed that way just coincidence)
Most times I attacked any wing..the other ships ran once they saw their buddy was going out.

Ok I will give this group thing a try. Can some of you gents or ladies please enlighten me on how to get in a group.

You have to friend people and then group up. Or if you are in Open play where there are lots of players you can group up in game.

I'd like to group up to as I haven't done any of that yet..but I am at work :)
