Holy moley (my first supergiant)

I've been mostly a combat player for a long time now (since beta), and yesterday I decided to try exploring for the first time. Bought myself one of those new ships, DBack Explorer, fitted it for exploring and off I went. I knew of VY Canis Majoris (and other supergiants) before this game even came out, so I decided to check it out.

Today I arrived there, and dear lord. Its huge. I was flying 100c alongside it when I dropped to the system and I was barely moving in relation of its surface. Here she is, VY Canis Majoris A, from 20 000Ls (!) away

Are there any hypergiants in the game?

I remember my visit, jumping towards this big orange dot from the neighboring system and entering system, the whole viewport was just red flame :)

Amazing shot, 20000 lsaway and it still looks huge...

Anyone has more pics of super-giants?

When I find it I have a pic of a huge Carbon star... basically a gigantic red dwarf.. looks kinda creepy as you speed away from it and still takes up most of your screen even at 10k LS out!

VY Canis Majoris from 10.368 LS away :)

And now for the fun part: SOL, exact same distance

If this doesn't make you feel insignificantly small, I don't know what will :D

Yes. There are hypergiants, but they're very rare. One hypergiant is VY Canis Majoris. It's the largest star in the game.
That IS the Canis Majoris. I thought I said it already in the OP. Too bad, since there are larger stars than Majoris in the real life galaxy. Atleast Eta Carinae is in the game.

Yes, but the only known larger stars are max 20% larger (still a lot, but not even remotely anywhere near the relations of "normal" stars vs Canis Majoris). As it appears, as of now Canis Majoris is the biggest star in ED:

I did the same thing, flying away from VY CANIS MAJORIS.
Looked back a few times but this big arrogant thing, didn't want to get smaller.
Celestial bodies nowadays... ts,ts

Yeah I remember, I flew to check in Canis Majoris B, the brown dwarf (IIRC) orbiting it, it was 12 000Ls away from its mother, and looked like it (A) hadnt shrunk at all.

Also when you drop in to that system, you drop about 6000Ls away from it and the whole view is just one blazing inferno. This thing is ridiculously big.
