Newcomer / Intro Home Station

Do you have to do anything in particular to have a home station or do you just move your ships and modules there and consider it home without any formal action?
I am considering Jameson Memorial.

I have specific criteria I look for in a home station/system. Nothing needs to be done other than move your stuff there. Having a home station is advantageous of course, as you build faction rep and therefore get the best missions on offer.

Things I look for

-- System name easy to type
-- Mix of Fed and Imp factions
-- Short arrival distance to the station
-- Landables for raw mats
-- Rings for bounty hunting
-- Icy rings for core mining
-- Boom state
-- Mat trader
-- Ocellus or Orbis station
-- HGE spawns

For what it's worth, I do not like permit systems for home station. The reason is no missions go to a permit system. So if you like to run missions from there, you always return empty handed, limiting to an extent the money and rep you can make. Jameson is great and all, but I don't want to be based there. Choosing a system close by is good though.

I can't see any sense in having a home base. I think it's better to leave all your ships where they're needed, then use a DBX to scoot around the galaxy. I always buy ships and outfit them in Jamesons Memorial because nearly everything is there. For that reason, many of my disused ships have ended up there. It makes sense to leave your anti-thargoid ship near Merope, your miner near Boran, your combat ship near LTT 15574, your PvP ships in Shinrarta Dezhra or Deciat, your passenger ship in Robigo, etc.

Now, with a 70LY jump range the galaxy has become much smaller. You could say that the bubble is my home, but I also have stuff in Colonia. Also, with limitless credits from mining, the cost of moving stuff around is irrelevant.

I spent two months in Ehecatl ranking up and getting a great trade route set up 6-10m an hour sometimes double and got to 1.6b from Trade mostly no mining

When I decided to mine I moved to a High Sec 8ly from Borann Huang Yai there are 3 Mat traders one hop away Farseer 2 hops my station is Fed surrounded by Imp systems made Post Captain yesterday and Duke two weeks ago so everything I need is right around me including my fleet and modules

There is an old adage that goes: "Home is where you hang your hat". Reckon in ED, it should be where one stores their helmet. I believe Jameson Memorial is the home station to the majority of player's once obtaining their first Elite status. Some may have a cabin else where they utilize on occasion in addition to a home station. But because of the availability of obtaining any ship and or mods. Jameson Memorial is the best.

I just pick a system that is in a place I'd like to live. I kind of look to see if it has a decent supply of modules. Then I slowly move all my ships and modules there. Then I kind of toy with the faction in power there and cause elections and stuff :p

I have occasionally considered moving my base of operations to the system Hyel Yeh - but it is an uninspiring place.

Another place who's name tempts me is Akhenaten and it has a plus of having an Ocellus starport.

When I started playing, I was doing a tiny delivery mission in my Cobra and got my fuel calculations wrong, necessitating a jump into the nearest suitable system to fine fuel.

That system was LHS 3006, where I found Leonard Nimoy Station orbiting a planet called Vulcan. As a Trekkie, I knew I'd found my home station then and there and it's never changed.

Philip Glass would (almost) be proud of you...

I actually am drawn to it via hermetic readings in my younger days rather than Glass' works. (I prefer more classical opera.)

Jameson is my home too. Of course because there you can buy everything, and because of relatively close most of the engineers. I played for long time in PG, in that mode Shinrarta is calm. In Open a bit stormy, but since I learned to survive, not so bad, but it can be annoying to having 5 interdictions while you reach Jameson. And since I have everything I wanted (ships, modules, engineering) it is lost this practical function.

Home is where you park your mining ships. :p

But seriously though, I have several ”homes” in the sense of places where I have parked some of my ships for easy access to their assigned tasks. Then I use a ship with decent jump range to travel between them, usually a Phantom or a DBX.

Still, most of my ships are parked at Jameson Memorial.

I made a home at a nice populated system outside the bubble with a lot of modules. I know every star system around it and it has almost everything I need and is a nice little quiet place to call home. There is a player based faction in power there. I picked a competing faction there and started building them up lol. Took almost two months work. Caused election and was close defeat though :( they are kind of a big group it seems but I guess I'm a bit of a thorn in their side? Recently gave up and gave them a ton of exploration data and other big purchases, but I may decide to spring up an uprise again :D

I dont worry about the module thing If Im buying a big ticket ship I will head for Sirius Corp find the nearest A rated FSD near home and transfer to there.

Whats the significance of an "Ocellus starport."?

When I got to the point where I could have multiple ships I based myself in Ix at Scully-Power Station as it was reasonably well equipped outfitting wise and I could get the 15% discount, importantly it wasn’t too inconvenient to visit to swap ships (this was before ship transfers were possible). After I got access I moved everything to Jameson but now with transfers and modern jump ranges things are scattered all over the bubble some are placed deliberately but others are just left where last used.
