Homesteader style settlements throughout the galaxy

Back in the 1800s, the US Govt granted land to settlers pushing westwards into new territories - about 160 acres - ina n effort to populate former indian land.

All they had to do was make good the land and maintain it for 5 years - and they were then allocated the land with a title claim.

It would be great to see a similar development in Elite horizons. Settlers could either buy or be given an area of land on a planet which they could be granted by a faction. They could then develop a landing pad, power, fuel, a HAB perhaps, and mine or grow crops which could be exported to starports or traded to visiting ships.

Your own private place in the universe - just like the settlers in the US in the past. After a period the settlers could give their land their own name like New Providence etc - as in the original pioneers of the USWest.

Does anyone like this idea?

This. I found a perfect little spot on a low G world's mesa that just screams for someone to live there. This would also drive the economy a bit further, having to go out and purchase materials to further build onto the settlement. AND with the added bonus that we might get space-legs sometime in the future, it would be nice to have a nice private retreat from cramped stations.
