Homeward bound and worried about it.

What got me into exploring was being unable to find a system I liked well enough to use as a base of operations. So I eventually sold off all my ships but one and am out window shopping at systems, I guess you could say.

Try half an hour or so of War Thunder or WoT or some other pew pew gaame of your choice. 'Sploring is then a nice break.....

Admittedly can't see any reason to stop, mate. Made the mistake of going back myself and trying a bit of trading (well, smuggling if I'm honest.) Got fed up of being interdicted by what seemed like everybody in the galaxy after a couple of hours. Then had a couple of pew-pewers see my Mostly Harmless rating and assume that meant I was an easy target. Already can't stand it, and only been back a few days. In your place, I'd probably come back to cash in the data and get a bigger ship, before heading straight back out again. As for goals - circumnavigate the galaxy, maybe? (assuming you haven't already, of course.) Or try for the record distance from Earth?

Is there any form of therapy available for this mindset?

;)
Maybe someone should start an "explorer anonymous" group?
- Hello, I'm Bob. Day 99 for me. Means tomorrow I'm getting my "100 days free from exploration" sticker. Oh, it's still difficult at times and I still think of the black every now and then, but I'm so much happier now *burst out in tears*

Now that's spooky. It's spooky because my name is Bob.

:D

CMDR Ulysses!!

Come on now!! I just got to the bubble last Saturday after 103 days of exploration! And, well, to be honest I have been very busy!! Lots to do for me here anyways!

See, this is my recommendation to you -and honestly to anybody reading-: I think that one of the biggest pitfalls ED has is the lack of engagement from their players. Not owning a station, or even a single part of it, or create a faction, does not make players really care about anything, cause at the end of the day, if it's not mine, I don't care!

Happily, this sense of belonging can be restored if you decide to join a minor faction in a nice system, both of your liking and preference. Just the quest for it is a fascinating journey. Let alone, once you found it, make it thrive, make it grow and make it expand to neighbor systems. If in between the stages you throw one or two explorations, even better. This keeps things interesting, gives you a sense of purpose, and also make you try things that otherwise wouldn't be as interesting -like pew pewing and learning how to properly outfit your ship for it. Variety is what brings spice to the game.

That's how I have endured this long with not a minute of boredom since December! It works wonders! I LOVE my Twin Systems (ELEU-SANTJALAN) and want nothing but the best for them and to keep them nice and running! But lo and behold, it has been a very difficult and challenging task to keep up with it! In the process, I have learned to investigate the markets, to become a somewhat skilled fighter, to learn the ropes of station flipping, and expansion, to rally for my faction here in the forums, meet people, support related wars to my cause -like Lugh- and even go out there in the longest expedition just to bring all that data in and support their growth.

When the plague hit, we were already in the midst of a civil war, and I was receiving the horrible news from afar! But the plague, then the pirates, then bounty hunters, together with the war to overthrown my faction, made me skip every single system from Great Annihilator all the way to SANTJALAN, in my version of a reverse buckyball race against the clock! In the process, I had to skip the Eagle Nebula, which was my intended last objective before returning...but hey! guess what? that's where my next exploration will go later on!! For now, let me fight the bad guys and all this myriad of unfortunate events that are ravaging my home systems!

I recommend you to try and do the same! And I would be lying if I don't say that I would love to have you in our system as a new citizen of the Twins...and fight shoulder to shoulder with me and few other cmdrs against the evil forces of all other factions (we are proudly independent, not major alliances, not powers bla bla here!) as we need to keep all forces at bay to preserve our identity! And that invitation goes as well for everyone reading this post!

If that isn't your cup of tea, there are still plenty of other things you can do here for a while:

-Try the new ships
-Become a fuel rat
-Urban exploration - we don't really have to travel 65k ly to explore
-Join a CG or two - help them
-Recruit newbies at LHS 3447 under your wing and help them grow in the game and to become explorers
-Help keeping systems safe combating pirates or griefers -Anuranium has been the Superman of our times, for instance, by keeping SAG A* free of wackos.

You know what? Why don't you just get here to SANTJALAN already and let's discuss these matters more in depth, over a coffee -and your loyalty contract and citizens right from the SEPP- so you get a better picture and more ideas?? **grin**

Godspeed CMDR and be sure you sell that data to a worthwhile system! (like mine!)

/Kancro out!

I have the opposite problem Ulysses. I looked forward to coming home, and no less than 2 weeks back and I'm already about to head out again!

I've resigned myself to starting an buying a second account so I can have a 2nd character who can do populated space things. And also be a bit of a space scumbag...

@Kancro. What a brilliant and well put together post. I really enjoyed it, thank you. You're right, perhaps I do need to make the effort to belong somewhere.

I've always considered Shinrarta Dezhra as my natural home and recently I've been thinking of allying to the Dark Wheel. This I will do and see how things unfold. Is it possible to flog my exploration data to the Dark Wheel?

Keep a seat warm for me in SANTJALAN, that coffee does indeed sound good. ;)

Can't rep you at the moment, so have a virtual one!

As an aside, I did request to join the Fuel Rats, but I think my request got lost in the rush.

I know the feeling, this is my third trip out. I've considered buying a second account more than once, but I've decided against it. I feel that it would dilute my role playing experience. I'd just end up with a commander languishing with no purpose in the game.

Hey Ulysses, you don't need to officially 'join' the Fuel Rats - just equip a ship for refuelling, go and hang out on the IRC when you're available to help, and volunteer for anything that comes up within range....

I'm out in the black myself at the moment but I've been following the Rats' adventures for a while and definitely want to get more involved when I get back :)

Glad to have been of help! That's the spirit!

Now, can't blame you but Shinrarta Dezhra...hmm...when somebody tells me that's their home, I kinda cringe a little...see...is more like they live in a beach, or in a National Park...or worse..in the Square next to the market...

You need something custom fit man! Something that gets your mojo...we have every possible combination in the civilization to pick from... between forms of govenrments, alliances, minor factions, economies...find the one that resonates with you...

For instance, I rather be head of a mouse than tail of a lion. I fell for ELEU cause it was an INDEPENDENT Agricultural system with beautiful sights as it has Earth Like Planets....not only that, it sells Rares, Thermals...which is clothing... very humble system but with a thriving economy. Good price in tobacco -and I happen to be smoker- and on top of that it has two stars...which makes like having two mini systems in one...that "Far Side of Eleu" has two outposts..one happens to be a commercial mall! Like 100k ls but worth the trip for fun!

And the Social Eleu Progressive Party -in spite of its socialist name- it's actually democratic and fair.

And then I found out about a High Tech system, not 3 light years away, that had amazing stations and above all, a High Tech Lab, Apple Looking Shiny sleek designed Outpost called Martinez City. I was over the moon! It was the perfect base for my explorations!! That's how I got in love with SANTJALAN.

So I started running missions for the SEPP. And before I knew, I noticed that thanks to bouncing back and forth, I had helped to open an office for the SEPP in Martinez City. Needless to say, finding out that tiny but significant progress gave me the impulse to go ahead and push for complete take over of the system, that was at the hands of a ruthless corporation that had a terrible pension plan and horrible coffee in the pantry!

Well, as you see, find your own niche. You are welcome to come here and stay in the area, even if just to get inspired to get you going...or who knows? Maybe you end up in the area as well. But finding a GOOD PLACE FOR YOU is equally important.

I partly want to do it for role playing reasons. CMDR Marlon Blake is a more or less respectable Imperial shill. CMDR Froggit will have completely different allegiences and will have to rely on 99% criminal activities to make his fortune. Also he will not get the benefit of backer perks.

I actually miss roughing it.
