Homeworld 1 & 2 resell and remaster coming!

Not only is Gearbox working on a remake of Homeworld 1 and 2 but it has also given the name back to the original creators who were working on a follow-up known as Shipbreakers.

This is now becomming Homeworld 3 with the original devs working on it, backed by Gearbox.

I am so exited that I cannot wait anymore!

Except this isn't anything like homeworld 1 or 2. Looks like some sort of command and conquer clone on planets. Nothing like HW1/2 which was all set in space.

:S

Yep that's what it looks like. It's a prequel to the first 2 games. But then Homeworld 1 and 2 where incredible games. They might have chosen the "easy" route here but knowing these guys they will hand over a good product once it's done.

I still have a LOT of faith in them

For the most part Homeworld was two dimensional strategy game with a little bit of the third dimension added in. Beautifully made and I enjoyed many a (re)play through, mostly because it has a story.

Two dimensional?
I do not understand.
Homeworld was the first space rts that featured true 3 dimensional space with battles on 3 axes..
It's units were fully 3 dimensional too.
And I perceived the game play itself as very immersive and 3 dimensional too :).

I am a huge fan of these games.
Since the Homeworld games were released they never left my HDD. They were the first games that got installed on every PC I own.
The day that Gearbox announced their plans for the Homeworld franchise I was just as happy as I was when I heard about Elite Dangerous.
I would have hoped that Gearbox would have given us a regular progress report, or at least something new to show us. But they are very tight lipped about the project.

The Homeworld space ship design is my favorite amongst all the games I know. There is something utilitarian and realistic about them. When I saw the first concept art of shipbreakers I immediately recognized that same beautiful style.

Probably because it would cost them a lot of $$$ to make a proper space RTS version. But I'll wait for reviews for the new HomeWorld prequal.

I really enjoyed the first Home World game, it had such a fantastic atmosphere going through the storyline. The second game was not as atmospheric but it was still a pretty good experience.

The 3rd dimension really had little to no significance to gameplay. Homeworld was all about the cinematic splendour of the whole experience. It was fairly limited tactics-wise.

Bloody brilliant it was too, and I can't wait for the remaster.

Gear Box have done a pretty good job in my opinion. I have experienced a few crashes and all but overall its been really great. Brings back a lot of memories from back in the day and updated gfx on it are great.

Currently just going slowly through the first HW1 campaign and then will dive into HW2.
