Honk the system?

There is something I have been meaning to research today... but haven't. It is the end of a work day and I am tired!

I was watching instructional videos and reading other material. I have been focusing on exploring. In some of the guides (that are for PC?) the discuss "honking the system", which is using your scanner to discover all planets. You can then go and surface scan the planets/bodies you want to chart.

I can't seem to figure out how to do this. Does it happen automatically on XBOX? Perhaps I need to upgrade the default scanner.

advanced discovery scanner bind to firegroup in supercruse scan system, then detailed surface scanner select the star/planet and wait to scan finished ... rinse and repeat

if travelling between point A & B and jump into a unknown system will scan with advanced discovery scanner, if needing to fuel scoop will scan the star. if exploring will jump in and scan everything with the detailed surface scanner except for asteroid belts, then onto the next system

You do need to get close to the body you are scanning. The most distant as can be scanned are suns at about 2000ls. Planets about 50, moons a bit less.

The Advanced Discovery Scanner costs something like 1.2m credits.

I finally figured out how to switch to "Fire Control Group #2" today... and HOOOOONK!

Success. Thanks fellas.

Some star types can be scanned from MUCH further away. You can scan a B-type from 10,000 Ls or more, and I once scanned an O-type from over 30,000 Ls.

These are very large stars, though.
