Honorary Naming

This may seem like an odd post, and perhaps not in the right place, but here goes. A friend recently introduced me to one of his irl friends. His name is Rick. He is a former trucker and just started in on Elite on xbox. So far, we have got him into an ASP-X and working towards a good freighter so he can be a space trucker. The shocking part is that he has terminal cancer. I find myself impressed with his resolve and his utter joy at playing this game. Of course, after chemo and radiation, he's damn near blind... makes bounty hunting to get him money rather interesting. Yet he persists. Don't know if anyone gives a crap, but I thought it might be pretty sick if an NPC or something was named for him. Rick "Space-Trucker", or something of the like.

I hope he will be able to enjoy Elite for as long as possible.

I'm personally not a fan of "honorary naming" but I find the suggestion you've made is actually quite good and in spirit of the game.

Sorry to hear about your friend, I've lost more than one friend to cancer, it's terrible.

Great idea for NPC name, good luck.

Honorary namings are cool if deserved. I'd say the chap deserves it, and then some.

Sorry to hear.
But with the elite store selling a lot of things I'm surprised there isn't an option to name NPC's. Like you could name NPC's pre release.

Go through the same filtering process. Can't be hard.

Awesome thing about this guy is acceptance. Gonna throw this dude a Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Reaver funeral when he bites it. Hope that if they do an NPC, they can screenshot it for him... think he would find it lolz.

Co-workers and family members have been lost to cancer, difficult to deal with.

Blessings to him, his family and friends.

Hope something can be done to give him some comfort.

I'm sorry to hear of the sad situation that you find yourselves in Phil, and the fact that Rick is going through such harsh times. One hopes that his chemo will be successful, despite it being extremely hard to go through and live with; thankfully Elite is a source of escapism for him as you have described and this is reassuring.

If you approach FD as several have suggested, then perhaps they would consider naming an NPC as "Rick the Trucker" or something similar; I am not so certain that they would go to the lengths of naming stations or planetary bases, but I also believe that is far more complex for FD and requires game updates etc. So, hoping that NPC naming is a lot easier for them, then petitioning with these circumstances may yield a nice response from them, and may help Rick with trying to manage and get through his chemo in both mind and body.

I remember reading a thread recently where someone suddenly met his deceased father as an NPC in a hazres. For the backers who donated a certain amount, it was possible to name the NPCs, and he named one after him. It turned out many more CMDRs did about the same. Don't see a reason why it should not be possible for FD to add another one, most certainly, these names are randomly selected from a list of sorts and not permanently stored somewhere (except for logs, maybe).
