Hooray for me!

Thanks to all the useful advice on the introductions thread, trip 3 out to nowhere seems to have worked out quite well...

791Ly each way, 13 new naming rights, including a previously undiscovered terraformable, which was pleasing (actually, reasonably earth-like).

The expected fiscal rewards and some sense of how the thing works.

So, next would be... a 5K Ly trip? Search for something in particular? Something utterly random?

What did you do once you got some confidence? How far can it go before one gets Honk-drunk?

Suggestions and comments welcome. Really, it's just a brag opportunity, but we're all human(oid) :D

hooray to you!

well... when i felt a bit confident, i did a trip clockwise into the core/sag a*.

but actually i'd recommend the other direction. eta carina, eta carina nebula .... and if you feel like pushing on, the star x carinae and the statue of liberty nebula. and if you still feel like pushing on, a next giant, Theta Muscae. that's 13k ly from sol. from there into the core - counterclockwise. much less explored than the beaten tracks.

what ship are you flying?

Weeeellll, no bragging here...

My confidence was up, ship was sorted and I am currently roughly a third of the way to Colonia. Finding many virgin systems but it's becoming a bit of a grind (thread posted elsewhere), so unless you are really committed to a 22,000ly trip or further, check, check and check again. Then remember you need to get back!

I get to play every other day for a few hours at best so this Colonia trip is... Challenging!

But, I've earned twice as much exploring than all my other activities put together, so I guess I do like to be away from the general noise, bit like RL[smile]

That one was done in a Diamondback X, well kitted out. I'm currently running simple missions in the MkIII to gain a bit more cash and rep, having decided to shift my base of operations. I've got a lot of expensive kit in storage but want to hold on to it for when the new AspX comes, may take a day or two to get more capital before buying.

Some nice ideas, thanks.

there is no new AspExplorer coming, though .... only the AspScout gets are buff. and the DBE gets more internals and reduced weight.

Never had a problem with confidence on going out int to the black. I was more worried about trading when trying to earn enough to get my Asp. There were a lot of pilots that only wanted to shoot your ship from under you in the early days. Might still be but I spend most of my time thousands of light years away from the bubble. :)

Once I had gained my Cobra, and the credits to put an ADS into it I had a wagonload of confidence, and aimed for Sagittarius A* and went merrily hopping on my way... ...and had to turn back after 9kLYs with my hull down to 60% and a large crack in my canopy.. :) (This was back in the days when heat damage ate the hull immediately and canopies could not be repaired.)
Still, 9kLYs wasn't shoddy in a rather under-equipped Cobra, (didn't even have an A grade FSD).

I used the credits from that trip to get an A grade FSD, and did a second, successful, run for Sgr A* in that cobra... and I have been in love with the Galactic Core ever since.. I'm currently in there flying an Orca now..

If you want to aim for something closer to home.. the Bubble Nebula is beautiful.

First off:
Well done and good job.
I kinda did the same thing as you. My first trip went like this:
I found a black hole in a forum. I wrote it down {more on that below} and I said I can do this and I went!

I'd never seen a black hole in the game so I took my well geared Cobra forth.
It was a great and far adventure.. I was thrilled about going this far! I was out of the Bubble!!! My 1st Black Hole!
Even better I have found unexplored bodies on the way!
I jump into what I think is my Black Hole system....
Only to find I wrote it down wrong.
It's just a plain system :O

But I went back home to get a ship. A real ship. Because I was hooked.
I grinded out an Asp explorer. I went deep into the black.

On May 22nd I will complete my 18 month trip.
So take heart.
Many of us have felt it too.
Fly and Fly safe!

Well done, keep it up.

The first real exploration trip I did was straight up (on the galaxy map about 1.5k ly) as I wanted to see how far up I could go. I quite enjoyed the challenge of finding stars to jump to and checking if I had enough synthesis materials for boosting further distances. I found quite a few clumps of systems that had been previously unexplored. It was a good place to start as it wasn't too far away from civilisation.

The second exploration trip took me to the new(ish) systems that are on the way to Colonia. I went to the first one and then the second (about 5k ly) but then ended up turning back.

The third exploration trip (my last one) was all the way to Colonia and then back via Sag A and the Great Annihilator. The way back was much, much quicker than I thought it would be as I decided to use neutron jumping. The AFMUs got a real work out on that last trip.

Some people like using passenger missions to go long distances as you would get paid more. Personally though, I'd rather not as I like to take my time when exploring.

Have fun out there CMDR!

My first trip was to the Elephants Trunk nebula. Then I carried on to the Bubble nebula, and the Heart and Soul too, since I was nearly there anyway :D

After getting back from that, my next trip out was Distant Worlds and I ended up at Beagle Point.

Some excellent thoughts. I can't even find some of these places on the map yet, need to practice a bit. I'm aiming more or less for Barnard's loop next in a Scout, reasonably kitted out but not enough bays for all the kit I'd like, and no SRV. I'll let you know how it goes...

I will add my well done's here as well.

I remember my first "long" trip, it was to a CG at jaques, my first CG, when it was still in the bubble. I entered the system name in the map and plotted a route and thought and thought "how far?" 120ly if I recall correctly, yes I was really green around the gills back then.

Yesterday afternoon I did a quick 750ly run from my current mission position to check out some vanished life on HIP 23759, once done here I will probably hop back to where I was to resume my missions. But you know, I still remember that thrill I got doing that first "long" run :D

Fly safe cmdr, one day we may bump into each other out there in the black and it's always meeting a fellow explorer far from anything.

My first longer trip was my second one - first one I just got my feet wet, found a single ELW, poked south wise toward witch head, and then back. Second trip I felt a lot more confident so I did a kind of a figure 8 route, with the bubble being the southern most point, Sag A the center, and the furthest point was some 42kly away or so. But it really depends on your personal preferences. You could go towards the core, visit Colonia, then back or something like that.
