can anyone squash the rumour.. that the game will only be a download - purchase....
( I live 'outback'oZ .and internet is 10, no make that 20 years behind the rest of the world.).. the only reasonable internet is here ,at the library

For the backers, of Kickstarter and old store, there was a Physical DRM-free boxed edition. Thus I think that you will can order in the new store and be delivered at home. And perhaps also you will find in stores. For the retail version, of course

Are you serious? We won't have scratched the micro layer at the top of the surface...Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

I played oOLite a lot and it's FLY trade-mine-hunt shoot kill dock buy sell repeat.
even with the OXps with great graphics..(thanks griff and many others).

That's probably not a wise thing to do. Everything has to be tested before then. If they suddenly release a new station and it goes horribly wrong that could set the retail date back.

Is the NBN still going to be rolled out to your area? I know most of Tassie is done now, and some of country NSW - I had thought thought that country SA & Qld would be next. That was the original plan but it's all become a bit hush-hush since Tony Abbott & crew took the helm. What are the speeds like on satellite now?

but not so much.....just cant help think ,, that if you take away the fancy fx and visuals from E.D..... is oolite better... and free..and customisable..

no one know about the national broad band, it was aelection promise that's been forgotten.
ITs a real pain...the only place is the library.. try explaining why your in there , with your laptop, down loading updates for windows and updates for your games from stream.........
we.re a bit out there.. we only got a maccas a few years ago.. and that's
a 2 hour drive into town..

Some of do wish we had the scale of your country though. 65m of us crammed onto an island about the size of one of your smaller livestock farms... you can keep the spiders though. And the other poisonous animals. And the bush fires. And the droughts. And the mahoosif floods. In fact how about we just swap the two land masses over and we fit UK into Australia somehow and you guys fit Australia into the UK? We solve our overcrowding issues and you guys solve your distance issues in one fell swoop without having to change what's best and worst about each country otherwise.

If I think about it the original was basically a grind, they may have been a lot of places to go to but they were really all the same.

Leave the spacestation, fly to a planet and back, trading the same stuff over and over. You didnt even need the money you maxed out months ago

I remember siting outside spacestations shooting vipers for hours on end just to grind right on commanders.

But the next elite added a lot more, buying ships, missions, transporting important cargo, people and stuff, assassinations missions, factions, lots of other stuff.

This will probably be more like that than the original, but with the original flight gameplay which was better, then all the other stuff they have added new, extra stuff, all the new ideas, and some 2014 polish, plus multiplayer,

So it should be unlimited fun.

I loved elite, I didnt like oolite, I cant remember why. It wasnt as good.

I actually preffered to play the emulated amiga elite than the PC oolite.

Yes all we are seeing here is the mechanics of the gameplay. But the game as a whole will be far larger than that. The Elite games have always been about making your own story and this game will be no different. So yes we may see some of the standard space stations and ships before we get to play the game, but actually playing it and discovering all the intricacies - that will be the interesting bit.

And of course there is nobody forcing you to watch all of these things. There is no reason why you cant purposely avoid the videos, sign off from recieving the newsletter and have a complete surprise when you get the game in September. I watch the odd user video here and there, read the newsletter and watch the dev diary updates but it all means nothing to me until I actually get my clammy hands on the actual game and start actually playing it for real. Until then lets just say I have a 'passing interest' in the games developments. I think that is the best way to be, we have a long way to go yet, no point in getting excited for another six months at least.

yepp could do,, but soooo addictive to watch...Saturday ,fortnightly, go to town to do grocery shop and spend the day in town.. My fortnightly hit of an hour on youtube HAS to include elite footage and then ,if time elite forums ( here today to pick forgotten dog food and animal feed .....some how... got forgotten yesterday ha ha.

I have very fast internet, but I also desperately want a boxed special edition.

I am prepared to pay good money for a nice steelcase with a paper pilot manual, some background information, a large map!, and a concept art book.

Having a game like this only as a digital version is a horrible thought.
I still have my hardcopy of Elite Plus and the big cardboard Elite Frontier box with all the books and the big map and all my notes about systems, trade routes etc.
