Horizon Forbidden West

Hell, yes ... this is the reason I bought a PS5 ... really hoping it lives up to the hype when it releases.

<- Sobs quietly, realising it'll be another 3 years before it comes to PC
Yeah. Same. I spent last summer with the first game and I do hope they're gonna hurry up this time. I'll give them a year of exclusivity and then I'm going to start acting all peevish and stuff.

3 years probably. They really need to shift console hardware unlike Microsoft.

It's s good strategy as it looks you guys will be getting Uncharted 4 next. Another absolute banger but old in PS terms now.

I was kinda hoping for Ghost of Tsushima :D

I am really looking forward to this game, I dunno how much of it is an explorable environment, but I am impressed!

And of all the reasons why I rewatch this, I am mostly blown away how good the sand looks and how it responds to all the moving characters.

I've been playing Days gone for the last couple of days...another excellent port over from Playstation.
So happy to hear! I have not played days gone myself but I like how a good number of playstation games are coming over to PC. I heard uncharted 4 would get ported over, but I was wondering why the collection won't come to PC if that is the case.

Hi.

Around launch, there was a collectors edition that wasn't purchased, so after running off to get it, then promptly leaving it on a shelf for 2 weeks.. finally giving it a go on ps4 pro.

Interesting from the first 6+ hours:

- Everything is that can be improved over zero dawn so far pretty much is. To see literally every item on the scorecard just that little bit better is definitely inspiring.

- It looks even better than the first one. I don't think the first one has been bested yet, save by rdr2.

- The game overtly "inclusive", which immediately triggers the woke detector. Soon after this though, something becomes clear.. they've gone beyond corporate rubbish, they've pretty much made the game directly targeted at adolescent girls. This game to me completely makes sense to a girl 19-mid 20's. For the first time ever, i've experienced the sensation of what probably all girl gamers have experienced thoughout history, and being 42 and gaming since a child, that's a real novelty. I appreciate this and think its great. There are one or two unnecessary hollywood woke characters but that's a lesser sadness. Yeah i respect them for being brave enough to do this as well...

- You can skip / manage the day night cycle outside the noob zone apparently. This makes me feel so good, as i hated the night time in the original. Hyperspeed day night cycles was a sad fad from open world games 5 years ago and im really glad they're more flexible this time.

Anyway, i play games for graphics / story first these days. While the writing is still like a really cheap assassins creed game so far, the presentation is exactly what i crave and im hooked on a game for the first time in ages.

ps. I'll just drop one spoiler to prove the point. One of the anchors of a side quest in the noob zone is based on saying thankyou after receiving food and sticking up for yourself. Yep.

pps. Its not going to be told well, but the overarching plot has the potential to be.. as interesting as the first one. They provided specifics to one of the ending events that i completely missed while playing the first game that they pickup and ran with.. i hope its deep enough to at least have some satisfying plot summaries.

I've got 90 odd hours in it already (base PS4 version) and my initial response was underwhelming and that was purely down to the story, then after about ten hours it picked up significantly and hooked me right in, it looks and runs excellently and has significantly improved on my main quality of life issues from the first, the addition of the stash being a massive QOL feature, my single gripe with it so far is that the melee combos can be tricky for an old grump like me and I don't feel that they are at all well explained in the fighting pits, PS5 arrived yesterday though so expect it'll get a second play through soon :D

I've watched a couple of YouTube full playthroughs of Forbidden West so far...since it won't be appearing on PC for at least a year or so, I must admit...I thought the overarching storyline was a bit cheesy compared to HZD...which I'm still playing my umpteenth playthrough of. I'll probably still grab it when it eventually appears on Steam, but I'm more looking forward to the upcoming 'Uncharted 4' PC release later this year if I'm honest.

The worst about watching someone else play through a game is finding the particular YouTube content creator who most suits your own gameplay style (and minus commentary), there's nothing worse than watching someone sprint past everything just following a main story line. I've found my guy though, I watched 47 hours of him playing through Ghost of Tsushima...as well as a similar length playthrough of The last of us Pt 1...a small treasure if I'm honest, if I'd had the controller in my own hands I wouldn't have played through them that differently. I particularly liked the way he would stand still in specific places just to let Ellie read cheesy jokes from her jokebook :D

Contrary to how some may view watching full playthroughs, it made me more hungry to play through them myself...assuming Ghost of Tsushima or The last of us ever appear on PC... rather than be put off by them...I'm currently watching the same guy playing through Uncharted 4 and the mini sequel now :)

Yeah playthroughs are interesting, love them. The games I end up watching usually I’m relieved and great full even I didn’t make myself play it. There are a few games which I turn off within the first x minutes, those are soon bought.

Assassins creed, tomb raider, and now elden ring I’m so glad I watched. Red dead redemption and aloy were turned off pretty quickly.

Last of us I couldn’t stand. Got it second hand and traded it in with disgust a few hours in. They were milking the emo and not in a positive way. Combat was fun tho. At that point I just wrote off naughty dog as full of themselves. Which is a shame because I love all the uncharted, especially lost legacy.

Yeah I only found out what ghost of Tsushima was a few days ago. Let’s go see… there was hardly any games in the ps4 era that were truly special would be good to add another if it checks out.

Ps. W3 was collectors edition. Mainly because I got then W2 collectors and it was insanely good and generous. Back when cdpr was still earning their rep.

On PC at least i'd name Death Stranding above the first HZD. HZD on PC does provide stunning visuals, way above most of the competition, with details that hold up until quite close, but Death Stranding is still a stop above with its incredibly detailed textures, and characters that get past the uncanny valley. If I recall correctly it's logical as Death Stranding uses the same engine with further tweaks. Excited above the new iteration of HZD as I really like the backstory, and the gameplay can provide some form of challenge (at least in the expansion).

Has anyone played forbidden west?

Im taking my time + playing it with my 4 year old in copilot mode (amazing feature!), epic robot dinosaurs are perfect for him.

But aloy is so insufferable. I really am annoyed by her character quite intensely. If it wasn't for the other characters being a foil to her crap it would be horrible. Having said, all the other characters be somewhat normal and reacting as normal people would to her insufferability is great.

I just got past the first main quest outside the noob zone where you follow up with sylens for the first time. I completely hated one part of that, but now that i've recovered it was great in hindsight, and im sort of fascinated at where the story goes.

Also, this is definitely a game designed by girls for girls, and i've accepted this. All the other stuff that high corporates like to do in exchange for unlimited budget im just lumping with that.

On PC at least i'd name Death Stranding above the first HZD.

Thanks for the tip!

Mind blown. This game is such an rollercoaster of positives and negatives.

  • When the story kicks in holy crap its good. The creative writing the dutch developers do is really next level :p
  • ... Making it... say relatable in an inclusive fashion is well beyond fitting in the lore and stabs what could be a classic in the face.
  • I feel almost cheated, but none of the reviews that i watched ever mentioned a dark souls like difficulty spike on key bosses. Given point 2, it feels really confused and doesn't know what it wants to be. The themes in the game are fine as the creators choice. They're not dark souls.

Maybe that difficulty is normal? Maybe i should just put it on easy. Its kind of annoying because while you're learning the fight, the scenarios don't have you knowing you made a mistake and trying to be better. The scenario's one shot you until you do something different. Its not the most fun while you're there.
