Horizons HORIZON IS FANTASTIC

Hello Commanders
I have to say one of my favorite Star Trek scenes is where Data and Luc try out there new SRV and drive the wheels off that thing
and do a very calculated jump into the boarding ship to escape the Klingons.

Well when I finally got my ASP Explorer fitted with a Hanger and SRV it was time to land on a planet. Soon as I landed and
undocked the SRV it was so real like. Everything went off without a hitch and I was zooming around getting the hang of the SRV.
I stopped the SRV and told my ship to take off with the click of one button and I was watching the whole thing from the srv
saying to myself you gota be kidding ..... I have to say Frontier Developments did a wonderful job on this DLC.

I bet they wanted to launch Elite Dangerous with this Horizons Content from the beginning. I'm just glad it was added to the
game cause it ad's so much more realism to ED and gives the players much more too do. I have a feeling this is just the
beginning of the Elite Dangerous Saga. Thank You

True, regarding performance, visual beauty and technical stuff they might be the best game developpers of the world. I always said it and it keeps getting better.

But i wish they could just hire some good experienced gamers/testers to balance their gameplay. Well anyway, i share the same feeling as OP, that's why i thank them in every post i make (my signature), even the ones when i'm frustrated/    'd off.

Agreed - we are all prone to forgetting how good ED is, and it's nice to hear the enthusiasm of new arrivals, helping us reconnect with that 'wow' we've all felt more than once.

Horizons for me suddenly turned all of the planets (even the ones I cannot land on) from 'window dressing' into real tangible things - which made much more of a difference to how I felt than I had expected.

So despite my sporadic moanings, I am impressed by ED and, like many, eagerly awaiting the next installments - be they big or small.

I never got tired of that strange tingling feeling when I am 20kLY away from the bubble and alone in an SRV.
We may not realize it, but our ship IS our home. It gives us the feeling of security and freedom. And suddenly you are alone with a thin shell of glass between you and the death, standing still on a hostile terrain, under the alien sun and you see your home taking off to leave and soon she is just one of the thousands of stars in the sky. With a last ramble of the warp drives, all world goes so quiet that ears, used to the constant hum and noises your ship makes while keeping you alive - the quiet that means security, the quiet that means everything works - start hurting. It is a very different type of quiet. Deafening quiet. Alien, almost threatening, a quiet that planet makes when it doesn't care whether you live or die. For next few hours, the only things that will make you company will be the tires, crunching the ground and ticking of a wave scanner, telling you where to go.

There's nothing like it.

Yes the game is finally growing on me. After I finished several other games that came out the last two years I have came back to ED/Horizon to calm down and settle in for a long adventure. It seems many of us pay top dollar for AAA games that only last for a month or two and then where back to what makes us happy and content. For me the perfect space game is my choice where I can spend many months just on one character finding new areas to explore and missions to complete.
Well thanks for the kind words and thanks Chris for that awesome picture. Happy Flying

Besides my daily moaning since 18 months ED is a abolutely fascinating game. For me the galaxy feals so real and its even not feature finished. Really looking forwards to new planetary content.

I wasn't appreciating the scale of the game until I decided to head out for jaques station. I'm about 6000 light years out as of today and you can really feel the isolation. When a game invokes a feeling like that I know its a keeper!

I feel like they've built a really rock-solid core of a game engine and environment.
Now I just want some more icing on this cake. ;)

I don't remember when I first saw Elite Dangerous, but it had been a good while ago, browsing titles that seemed interesting, and I thought "Wow, that looks pretty nice." But I passed for The Witcher 3, which is also quite good, and didn't think much more about Elite, until I saw something about Horizons, and that this added planetary landing seamlessly integrated, and I was sold. I haven't been able to put it down since (mainly because if I do, I'm not making any credits, and the ships I want are expensive!) It really is an impressive, immersive game, and this just makes it all the better.

I was suitably impressed too when I was almost out of SRV fuel, called the ship and my Python landed nearby and not where I left it......Nice........:D Popped aboard and jumped into the other SRV, got back to that Antimony and Germanium hunt almost immediately. It took me a while to figure out the different signal waves the different meteorites make but now I am sorted and even found a random crash site the other day on a rocky planet I was 'prospecting' on.
Yes if just chase materials for mods by missions only like I was doing is great fun, but it can get annoying looking for a single certain material. I now find it is also fun finding the materials on planets and I haven't even mined a single asteroid yet, I started playing the game for certain reasons back when it was just a 'Beta' and have found even more reasons to play now Horizons has arrived. Yes there will be a few bugs to iron out but mostly I am very happy with the integration of planetary landings and meteorite hunts into my little own Galaxy. Bravo Frontier.

Agree, best Space SIM out today, I just want to get out of my chair :D

Totally agree. I have an iMac and used Bootcamp to try out Horizons, was stunned. Driving around with an SRV on a Mars-like planet was pure bliss, and the sheer number of things to learn, try out, and explore keeps bringing me back to the game. I can't wait to start walking around inside my ship, exploring stations, and meeting other player's avatars or fighting aliens...
