Horizons Horizon trailer was nice but misleading.

This has been mentioned lot's of times I guess. When I watched horizon trailer with my son for the first time we were so exited about the dogfights over planet. When we went down on the planet for the first time he asked why there's no one down here. I said I bet we have npc's here in no time. Then I saw the news about no ncp's on the planet. I knew my son would be so disapointed cause we are winged bountyhunters. It seems that for bountyhunters there's nothing on the planets. We have had nice time racing around a bit but... I hope first major patch brings some good news so we don't have to wait for a full year. I hope SJA teaches npc's how to fly low but I fear she's teaching roller costers :)

Me and my wing mate bashed up a surface base the other night that launched some fighters against us.

I really don't want the planets swarming with NPCs.

Why misleading? You can have these dogfights over the surface.. but with player ships. So the trailer doesn't show something that is impossible. And in fact..it's a trailer. Did you ever see a trailer (marketing!!) that reflects actual gameplay?

So you're saying it's not misleading or you are saying no trailer actually reflects gameplay?

We don't need them to be. Having less of a division between content in space and content on planets would be nice though. For immersion reasons if nothing else.

I can have an endless battle in space but never in a planet's orbit or on the surface. I can hunt pirates anywhere. Just never on a planet. I can do my power's bidding across huge regions of space, where I'm a constant target for the enemy powers. But there's nothing for me to do on planets and I'm completely safe, I'll never see another power's agents there.

You like immersion. I'm sure you can understand.

Edit: I'm not really bothered whether the trailer is misleading or not. That can be argued either way. But the game does need both ship and land content on planets. And I'm sure it will get it. Just, sadly, not soon.

No, I'm not. I asked, why it is considered misleading, because the feature itself (combat above a planets surface) is in the game. The part where the combatants are NPCs is totally made up by the OP.
The part where trailers don't reflect actual gameplay was meant regarding the presentation of the feature, not the feature itself. You have combat over the surface, but not as action packed, with cool camera paths as the trailer shows. This is how trailers work. They are not made to show how the game is actually played, they are made to get your interest and make you want to play the game. Like I said, marketing.

You said, it can happen therefore not misleading but then said 'did you ever see a trailer that reflects actual gameplay'. So... apparently you answered your own question. I was merely remarking on the obvious contradiction.

Can dogfight occure above a planet's surface?

That it can occur does not make it not misleading. It provides the wrong impression on what typical gameplay on a planets surface is (or even typical gameplay in Horizons), therefore misleading. But as MasterZelgadis pointed out, this is typical of trailers. Show your best bits because that's what sells.

How good were the fighters? I've heard they aren't very good and crash a lot. I've also got the impression from FDev that surface bases shouldn't have an NPC craft figthers.

I'm confused!?

Maybe they were drones. I was flying high CAP around the base so didn't see close up, just heard a load of foul language from my wingie over the comm.

It's called making it appeal to the mass market with 'dynamics' and explosions. I say 'dynamics' because of course continuous loudness is not dynamic. Someone should loan Hollywood a dictionary so they can look up the word's actual meaning.
