Horizons Horizons and graphic tweaks - Installing a fresh copy today

I totally dorked up my install trying a bunch of graphic tweaks, and so I will install fresh while at the sons football game. Now that I have horizons, is ULTRA settings good enough? I have a GTX1070 and a 4 core machine which rarely goes about 45% (as seen from roccat power grid).

I like to Bounty Hunt, do assassination missions, and some quick runs if I have bought off more than I can chew and need some cash.

There are lots of threads, but I cant find a collective source for graphic tweaks, file descriptions, etc. Does anyone have some? What are the top graphic tweaks you would suggest (I don't want to increase star count)?

Now on to shaders. There is SweetFX (reshade 2.0), EDFX (reshade 1, cant find reshade 2 framework), GemFX (havent tried it), and lastly straight up reshade 3 (I think. I doesn't seem to actually install anything, haven figured i out, its rather confusing and there is little info).

What have people tried and what are their thoughts? EDFX 3 appears versatile and does a lot (HUD changes for example). Is it all pretty much the same in the end? It comes down to what tool is easier or if you plan on changing settings alot?

Its all quite confusing to a new player.

1070 is a great card and you don't have to worry much so you can go full ULTRA and play with supersampling a bit. As for EDFX I am using EDFX 2.5.0.6 and for this you need framework 1.1 if I remember correctly. EDFX 3 is mostly for high end cards but don't know much about it. Here is the link for EDFX http://edcodex.info/?m=tools&entry=58 so go there and find what you want and test it out. I used SweetFX and GemFX but I enjoy EDFX (it have unified engine ReshadeFX+gemFX+sweetFX from what I know) much more, the picture looks much better imho. Have fun testing CMDR

I was using EDFX, but it bothered the crap out of me that I had to use Reshade framework 1. The option for framework 2 is in EDFX, but I don't know were to get reshade framework 2. I do like that EDFX has lots of extra features like HUD profiles and such, and hotkeys for different profiles.

Does the reshade 2 and sweetfx work with EDFX.

Maybe ill start with ULTRA and FOV in game, and if I want more, install EDFX.

G'day amaskedman,
I have the same card (GEFORCE GTX1070) and went to the NVIDIA site and downloaded the drivers. On opening the new downloaded control panel for the card I found it had a setting for ED. I applied it and instantly all was crystal clear and all flickering was gone. Hope that helps.

What other settings should I tweak? Baked in, not modes.

Someone suggested oversampling.

Go for all to ultra and at oversampling put it at max (2.0) and see if you have problems with the FPS, which I don't think so. If you do, put it at 1.5. And do what Gaffa said :p

Doesn't that only change the in-game options to some optimal settings for your rig?
I'm using a 1070 as well, and it handles ultra perfectly fine at a (capped) 60fps.

You might want to hold off messing with all those third party graphics packages until after 2.2 comes out and you see the improvements FD has made to the graphics in the game.

I'm running an ASUS Strix 980ti OC and have been pretty happy overall with the vanilla graphics quality as of the 2.2 Beta. They have made some pretty significant improvements over 2.1.05 in this area including a new Hyperspace tunnel with ZERO STUTTER, and more defined planetary surface textures. I haven't noticed any increased demand placed on my GPU or my CPU despite these improvements. (i7 6700k @ 4.6Ghz)

I run all ULTRA settings with Super Sampling at 1.5 as well as my Nvidia Control Panel "DSR - Factors" set to 4.00x (native resolution) outputting to a 55" SONY W-900 HDTV at 1080p x 60Hz. I've tried upping that DSR setting to 8.00x but I didn't really see much of a difference in graphics quality, but a definite increase in GPU usage overall. 4.00x seems like the most bang for the buck for that setting at least with a 980ti or a GTX1080 FTW, which I also own but use in my video editing machine, not my gaming rig.

But again... 2.2 is definitely a significant step forward in terms of the stock graphics of ED compared to 2.1.05.
