Horizons - best VR experience ever

I decided to go exploring on a moon a jump away from Founders. With the terrain generation slider set to GPU, I get great performance even on my R9 280. Planetary transition was smooth as you like and I soon set the black FDL on the deck of the planetary station. In seconds I was tearing it up in the buggy.

Damn, they've done an outstanding job on this thing. All of it .... every detail. Tyre treads, bull bar, the confined space, the turret view. I've seen it a number of times now but it keeps getting better and better. Power down and I'm jumping the dunes. Amazingly, no nausea at all.

My mission? On the way in, I saw a giant deep impact crater that needed exploration. I just had to see it for myself up close. I was sure that I was going in the right direction but where was it? I'd passed a number of smaller craters already ... Perhaps I'd missed it. No worries, I just have a bit more fun ramping off the crater edges.

So I went full pelt at the lip of a crater and coasted over the crest. At which point I realised that I'd just found the mega crater. The drop was going to be HUGE. I screamed. My wife thought we were being burgled. Somehow I took the first hit, using thrusters to cushion the blow. Big damage but still alive, yet I was immediately thrust back up in the air and had to repeat it again and again. I lost count of the number of times I had to thrust and twist and correct in order to make it. Long enough for me to plan my next purchase of fresh underwear from M&S.

After a gentle look around the crater in my wreck of a buggy, I called in the FDL. I had to drive round it several times admiring the scale and the detail.

This game has never been about progression for me. It's always been about moments. There are too many to count now. FD have done such an amazing job with the VR in this game that I'll buy a new Rift/SteamVR visor plus gfx card. The game is worth it.

There's a slider in the gaphics options from memory for terrain generation. I shoved mine all in GPU.

Agree!

Elite + VR + body vibration + HOTAS = an experience. Less about progression for me.
