Elite Dangerous: Horizons Beta-only Community Goal - STARTS 04/12/15
Keep an eye on GalNet for when the beta-only Community Goal goes live.

Greetings Commanders,

LHS 3262 Solutions has reported the theft of a valuable experimental data core. The core, which has been in development for some time, has been described as being “of great importance” to LHS 3262 Solutions, and a generous reward has been offered for its safe return. The precise location of the thieves is not known and Security services in the LHS 3262 system, where LHS 3262 Solutions is based, have been unable to track the thieves, but they have determined that the criminals recently visited three systems: Eleu, Pijan and Baris.

LHS 3262 Solutions has stressed that the core must be recovered soon, before it degrades and becomes unusable and are offering a rich reward for the first pilot to return the item to their facility at Whitworth Park on Akan.

As an additional reward, the pilot that returns with the data core will also be awarded a special code to obtain a new ship paint job of their choice.

Community Goal:
Find the Stolen Data Core
- LHS 3262, Whitworth Park on Akan, search for clues to recover the stolen data core.

Happy Hunting Commanders!

Ohh this sounds like fun! I'm assuming there's only 1 core altogether? What happens if the player carrying the core gets destroyed? :D

Lol imagine if this happened in real life with a company or government - "Find our super duper, very important asset that will determine the future of this organization/country, and in return...we'll paint your car. Any color you like of course" :D

not sure of those systems, is this gonna be a planet based search, or the usual uss search. (hoping for searching planets in the srv)

Well it only makes sense that you will have to land and search the planets. I wonder if only one planet has the data core or it's purely random and there is an equal chance to find it on any of the planets in these systems.

I hope that we won't need to use the datalink scanner because that thing simply doesn't want to work for me.

Not to be a party pooper, but it's not really a Community Goal if it's in a paid, closed beta now is it? I know beta access was a kickstarter reward, but charging extra for something that is ostensibly to help improve the product, and thereby reducing the pool of available testers isn't a great plan, in my opinion. And testing is normally something you pay employees to do (a quality assurance department, if you will), not something your customers pay you for the privilege of doing. I know this isn't really the time and place for this, and I normally am okay with the closed, paid beta (I vote with my wallet!), but this is the last straw. CGs are really the only thing that's been keeping me playing lately, and this week's one is a clear excuse to bring everyone back to the bubble for Horizon's launch. I'm kinda miffed. :(

EDIT: That's it, I'm done. We don't have to talk about it any more or derail the thread. Just had to get that off my chest.

The community who bought into the idea of Elite Dangerous back when there was no planetary landings, when there where no wings, no revised mission system, the community of Alpha backers who paid in when there wasn't even a game yet. This CG is another way to give value to those who believe this game was going to be great before it had fresh new paint on the walls with new furniture and of course those players who see the value of the game now and would like to be apart of all future expansions without waiting for a steam sell., is this the community you speak of?

I don't know if you need to go to Whitworth Park in advance to "sign up"... but I will say this. Racing around the circular roadway there, with the lights off and flashing past the yellow lights that line the roadway is freaking epic. Nice of Frontier to put a racetrack in there to help us pass the time. :)

I wonder what time this kicks off. It is the 4th, after all.

this isnt a community goal its a competition treasure hunt similar to the one ran for the Nvidia Titan several months back.

i'll pass

Wow a lot of negativity here, it's a story placed in front of a important beta test to see if a new feature works.

Thanks for making the test more interesting DEV

I won't be able to take part as I am painting my Conda docking bay today. :)

Good Luck all

It's a shame there's always so much negativity, but if that's how people want to live their lives....

I'm game for this. Picked up another one of the new ships and outfitted it to check it out while running around and seeing new sights. The Corvette was fun, especially with turreted weapons, but I'm going a bit smaller and quicker on this run.

Oh man, don't remind me of that Titan.
Had this thing right in front of my very eyes but didn't know about the event and figuratively flipped it out of the side window with a lackadaisical meh, shouting "I'm here for the Palladium, Peaches!"

they still have not answered if this is gonna be a mission goal given at the station, or if we should just go directly to search for the damn thing.
