Horizons Beta VR

So I decided to go ahead and upgrade my runtime to .8 and try to get Elite to work with steam VR. After making the switch I got connected to steam VR made a custom resolution and launched Elite through the launcher. Every thing worked fine, but I was getting equal to slightly more judder running with comparable graphic settings down on planet surfaces. So no real performance gain.

So I said what the hell and upgraded my pc to Win10. Updated graphics card and Rift profile. Instead of running steam I left it closed, and launched Elite by itself. The mirrored screen popped up on the desktop, and as soon as the main menu appeared on the desktop, I put on the rift. Went into settings used my monitors native resolution of 1920X1080@120hz. I restarted, loaded in solo on an ice planet.

I can tell you that this is the smoothest experience I have ever had using the Rift in Elite. Absolutely runs flawless on all planet surfaces I have tried. I am using the following settings: (From Memory)
SS 1.5
HMD slider 1 notch over half
FXAA
Blur off
Medium settings
Shadows Off

Running a single 980 with I7-4970k, 16gigs ram, and DK2 and now running Win10.

It appears with the current Horizon Beta, Steam VR is not required in order to use the .8 runtime. On the downside I am still getting the supercruise meltdown, it is slightly more tolerable with the Win10 setup in solo, but not what you would call playable. If in open and another Cmnd enters the system the fps turns into a slide show. Also the HMD view reset is also slightly off, I have to reset multiple times and have to look slightly right in order for it to align to the proper position.

But all in all I am seeing a massive improvement to Planet surface flight and Buggy driving. Station performance has also been a much smoother experience with this setup.

It doesn't sound worth it to me. I'll stick with run time 0.5 and Windows 7 for the time being. Looking at your settings I get better performance in general other than in super cruise which hopefully will be fixed by the time horizons goes live any way. I don't use SS btw.

Well the new beta fixes the Supercruise stutter judging from my experiences last night - for NVidia users at least anyway.

Performance seems to have improved in normal space / stations, I was able to push SS back to 2.0x. For planetary surfaces I had to drop SS back to 1.5x. There is still a considerable amount of stutter after dropping from orbital cruise into glide mode. Basically I'm unable to move my head due to stutter until the orbital glide complete message is displayed / spoken.

SRV performance was also noticeably better, no stutter with the SRV lights on, in or around bases on both the dark & light side of planets. Is it just me or does driving over the small rocks on the surface seem to affect the camera? Causing a slight stutter?
