Horizons confirmed?

Sounds like at least someone at frontier is expecting horizons PC to be around forever.

Apologies in advance for being happy. I know quite a few people here hate horizons with extreme passion and don't want anyone else to play it either, even if they can't run odd. Sadly the goodbye posts you were regretfully anticipating may not be coming.

Also.. NICE!!! :) That's good.

I wouldn't say it means 'forever', necessarily. There could easily be a follow-up email in, say, 6 months, that says "With the merging of the Horizons PC codebase in Odyssey, consoles will no longer be receiving upgrades". But still, it does suggest that they've no immediate plans to can PC Horizons.

So, a cautious \o/ from me.

Hmmm.. well if there are legal issues with copying arx over (or maybe they just want people to stockpile again, fair enough its a free account).. i can't imagine frontier would have much of a choice if they're still in business to keep the servers on for horizons?

I don't know of any game that works and is sold as single player on console which doesn't work anymore because the developer decided to abandon it..?

Its still available for purchase on the playstation store and is on sale even atm. Guess they want to boost player numbers on console still?

Anyway thats all just speculation. Just leaving everything as is would be less work for then flicking the switch and dealing with the aftermath so assuming there are no major problems that aren't also fixed with odd, might be good to go.

There's also a chance once the live service expectation dies off completely, horizons on console will validly slow burn as a finished space simulator. Being finished is good too.

Do they?

It would appear from perusing the forum on occasion, that there are avid EDO 'haters' who hold that attitude. Even some who have never bought, and allegedly will never buy, the expansion.
I really don't get the hatred for Odyssey. I have never once noticed any planetary tiling, yes the proc generation is different but in many respects it is better and the atmospheric effects make it worth while. The only downside to the experience is VR, but it is only on foot where it is impacted and the over the shoulder view at least gives a workable VR view if you're exploring.

The performance fixes have continued to improve to the extent that even my potato plays VR fine. I guess some people just don't like change.

Since getting Odyssey I have only booted into Horizons once or twice mainly to get out of situations of my own making when i got stuck. On my laptop the game plays very well and is quite enjoyable

The group I play with also stay in EDO, it provides plenty of things to do from both Horizons content as well as the EDO introduced content. I wouldn't say any of us hate Horizons and don't wish anyone else to play it, but we do choose to play the expanded game pretty much exclusively.

ETA: Although, I guess I must be a Horizons hater as I wish that Frontier would finally merge Horizons into the updated client so that I can play along with the few friends who, for whatever reason, do not have EDO, without having to exclude others if I wish to do so.

As the EDO planet tech seems to be a step back from procedural generation into the realms of hand crafted planets etc.
It's not. It does show FD should communicate as little as possible with this community, as clearly some people turn their own poor understanding into gospel even when a cursory glance at the game would proof them wrong.

I don't understand why any criticism of Odyssey is classed as hatred.
🤷‍♂️ just responding to @Rat Catcher

I do however think that a lot of the criticism is outdated (it runs too slow, too unstable) and it is just intransigence that is keeping people (especially LEPers) from installing it*. Whether that is hatred or pig-headedness is whatever you prefer.

* assuming they have no PC issues but as mentioned I have a potato and it is perfectly playable for me

Please, I've had Rat Catcher on ignore for years. We get on so much better that way.
