So, immediately after it was released I tried the Horizons Beta, went to the nearest "landable" planet, and landed there, it was a rocky (and dusty) world, kinda flat, and I landed at some base and drove around and was like "ok, yeah, nice".. also had some issues (getting disconnected several times, after leaving the planet it wouldn't disappear from view etc)... so yeah, was ok.
But then, last night I decided to give it another go, got into my Cobra again and went to the neighbour system, picked an icy moon of a gas giant... and when I got closer to it, I was already amazed as it looked like in parts of the areas there were huge ice canyons. So I decided not to go to the base that I planned, but I landed on a ridge between two canyons, the "sun" was already low, the shadows longer, the bottoms of the valleys already quite dark. Due to no atmosphere a stunning view on the gas giant and the general sky, beautiful milky way, all the stars, magnificent!
Once I got out on the surface I suddenly felt like "I really want to walk here" (hope we get that added some time soon
), the atmosphere was just so nice, it kind of made me feel cold, you could hear the snow under your wheels, that light from "sunset" was so pretty, I just stood there and kept looking around from the turret, the ship standing 200m away from me in the snow. I didn't want to leave. (and it kind of reminded me of the ice planet Hoth in Star Wars
) I kept driving around for quite a while then flew the ship around the canyons enjoying the play of the light, and the gas giant looming above. Then I went to an outpost on the other side of the planet, flying at an altitude of 30-40km, really beautiful. This really got me hooked and I can't wait for more
I am playing with the OR btw, and I can't wait for them to support gameworks VR so I can finally make good use of that SLI and turn up the details...
One thing I would really like is that my ship doesn't just disappear once I go over the next ridge, but I would love to be able to drive off for a while and then come back and see it still parked in that nice spot where I put it when I landed... of course nice if I can tell it to fly off meanwhile, but it should be optional IMO (and if it get's attacked it could send a message to my SRV so I can tell it to lift off...).
Anyway... I was planning to just play like 15 min before sleep but it quickly turned into nearly 2h
Thanks Frontier
