Horizons or horizons legacy for laptop cmdr?

Hi, I’m an old console commander who had his account transferred to pc… I only have a Thinkpad T480s with a Core i7 8550u with 16gb ram and a SSD. It’s basically the “household email and holiday research machine”. I loaded ED Horizons on yesterday and it looked like the Odyssey version installed: haven’t had time to try it yet but the loading hanger took ages to load - would I be better off running the Horizons legacy mode purely for tinkering around in the game in solo until I can get a PC at some point to play properly? Not interested in affecting the bgs or anything but anything that would give me some frame rate of any description so I can fly around on my own to chill when everybody’s gone to sleep would be better than nothing!

Thanks!

They are the same thing. Horizons and Odyssey live are the same game, but with restrictions on where Horizon only owners can go and what they can do, so no walking or landing on atmospheric planets, but it's still the same game. If you want an easier on the video card version then legacy may be better for your old laptop.

While that laptop has alright specs for most things - I doubt it'll run Elite (or most games) at a playable framerate.

It should be more than enough to run the legacy elite version and do some relax shooting, just lower resolution, quality settings and drawing distance if frames drop below playable

A 6 year old office laptop with a IGC Intel UHD 620....

You might not have the best experience. That said. Try it. You van always uninstall.

I am on medium detail, about 1760x960iirc and hitting around 30fps in a station and up to 50 outside, which will do me for the time being!

Tbh it runs the legacy horizons at a decent enough resolution of about 1760x960 at 30-50 fps medium detail, which is a lot more than I thought it would! I think it’s because it’s the legacy version and not the full fat odyssey engine.

Bear in mind that if you use legacy horizons then swap to odyssey later you will lose your progress there as they run on separate servers.
