Horizons Horizons season pass

I bought this pass and installed it on my computer. I have been playing Elite Dangerous for about a year. After installing EDH I went to play it and when it loaded up, I got the message stating that my computer could not run this pass. I do not see why it could not since I can play ED 64bit with no issues. Nice to know this after the fact that I bought it and installed EDH. See attached document showing what kind of motherboard and ram I have in my computer. I also have a 2gig pci video card that uses DirectX 11, which should be no issue with. So any ideas what the issue is here? I am not in a position to go out and buy a new computer just for a game, that's for sure.

In all likelihood the issue is your video card, 2g ram is marginal even though they claim 1g will run. I specifically upgraded my card to an 8g one to avoid issues with these newer games. I am running a similar setup with 16g of ram and a 3.6GHz Intel proc. Really, the only big difference in our systems is my video card, an 8g AMD Radeon. You should be able to get one of these cards for under $300 US, but other cards are out there as well for less money and they will do the trick.

The only other thing is to make sure you have the latest drivers installed for whatever card you have now.

Good luck.

I hate to say it but...

Those are some major differences right there between the processor and the GPU it's not really similar at all. Horizons should run absolutely fine on just about any card that is DX11 compatible from 1GB upwards. In fact, it used to run perfectly fine on my system when it had a 1GB GTX 750 installed, and still works fine now I have a GTX 960 with 2gb on board. In neither configuration could I hope for ultra settings, but high is easily obtainable on the 960 without issue all while maintaining 60fps everywhere, 4 gb is only really required for ultra settings.

My advice to the OP, speak to support in their part of the forum or raise a ticket. Include information such as a DXDiag report, your motherboard attachment contains none of the details that they will require. But as said above, make sure your drivers are up to date, a lot of problems can be solved by doing this.

Just sold my 970 and will be buying a 1070 in the next few days. I fired up Horizons out of curiosity and set everything on low and it played fine on the integrated graphics of my i7 4790k (no dedicated gpu), around 20fps on planets and 40-50fps in space. I was surprised but everything was on low but it worked.

I neglected to mention to check the game graphic settings.

Higher ram cards will run at the higher settings, give a higher frame rate and will give you the better effects. As NickyG1982 stated, it should run at the low settings, but you will have to sacrifice some enriched effects that do add to the game substantially.

Past experience has shown me that in gaming, just meeting minimum requirements leads to issues, and usually, low memory and video ram numbers are the culprits.

I run EDH on a 2011 Alienware laptop with a 2gb 460m.
At first I had issues with not getting past loading screen, but then I updated Windows 7 to absolute latest build *and* more importantly I updated my nvidia graphics drivers to the latest build. This solved all issues and EDH is eminently playable. Fact is it runs on older cards so long as the support software is up to date

Guys you really don't need an uber card to run ED well at all. I have a fairly old gaming laptop with the same card I got with it: an AMD 6990m which has 2GB ram (+ obviously much more system ram). I have no problems running ED at all. Note the card I'm using is a mobile version GPU from 2011. Everything runs smooth including planets etc., and it looks great.

I am sure the issue is the video card.. They say that it has 2 gigs of ram with direct x 11 .. but they don't say what brand... I bet they have Intel Integrated Graphics .. which is fine for anything BUT gaming. Get a AMD or Nvidia, and you will be fine. I have the AMD R9 290 and run Elite on Ultra settings without issue at 1080p. But just like other users have said you need a solid card, but you don't need a uber one to run Elite on the high settings. Ultra it does need to be somewhat beefy. The R9 290 has 4 gigs of ram and is a beefy card but not uber one and runs great. For the money I would get the AMD 480 that is coming out, for 200$ you can't beat the performance / price ratio.
