Horizons weird new stuttering issues

I've been playing the game on my Index for a while whitout any issues. Had a little hiatus, came back to play today after a year or so. Used the same settings I had before and suddenly the game was almost unplayable. Constant stuttering whatever I did. Dialing down the graphic settings to minimum did not change a thing, neither did dialing down the resolution in steam vr. I noticed the mouse also did a lot of glitching in and out, like flickering, clicks not working properly and so on.

Now comes the weird part:
When I click outside of my monitor window or alt-tab to desktop, the performance in game suddenly becomes stellar! Everything runs butter smooth, even if I crank the quality up to max. No stuttering, reprojection or anything. Only problem is, my controllers (joystick, mouse, keyboard, HOTAS, etc.) are not working like this. But as soon as I click on ED, making the program "active" again, the stuttering resumes. Never expirienced anything like this before in any VR application (or in ED itself, for that matter). I play Horizons, don't have Odyssey. No changes to my system since I played last time (without those issues).

Any ideas what the issue might be?

I have the same issue. Do you happen to have a second monitor? I place the client window on that and have it selected so my HOTAS works. Then in Virtual Desktop, make sure sure the desktop is looking at the first monitor. This solves it for me. I don't have Windows Game Mode on. I don't know why this is doing it either.
But it works for me.

Frontier, did you test the VR mode in the last 3 years?
No, because they don't give a heck about enhancing the VR experience passed what we had in Horizons, which was already inherited from code written before the initial release.

And apparently we should be grateful...! </s>
