Newcomer / Intro Hostile to a minor faction: What are the disadvantages?

I'm having a hard time Googling any information on this one. My relationship with the minor Pirate faction in my home-base system has been steadily decreasing thanks to me blowing up lots of their wanted ships. Its currently friendly and will soon drop to hostile.

I'm just wondering what are the effects and disadvantages of being hostile with a minor faction? Will they open fire on sight? Refuse to trade? Offer no missions. I'd just like to be more informed of the actual consequences before allowing my rep to slip into hostile territory. Any information would be appreciated.

Yes, they won't let you dock at their outpost (if they have any) and they may start shooting at you when they see you.
It's not really a biggie, but it can be annoying, especially in RES. I would recommend, if you want to avoid that, just go and do a couple of missions for them, (unless they are sending you against your employers) - get them at least to neutral.

If you WANT them hostile, then good work! It can be fun! :)

Pirate factions will attack you even when you are allied to them if you have any cargo. So being hostile doesn't really make that much difference. But, like Chris says, if they own a station you won't be allowed to dock there. Any station or outpost owned by them will attack you if you are scanned.

If you do become hostile, it doesn't stay that way for long as hostile reputation decays over time.

Is that true for minor factions? I'm still allied with minor factions in the bubble after over a month in Jaques (returned a few days ago).

it is true for negative reputation with minor factions (hostile decays to unfriendly in a around a week). positive reputation with monir factions does not decay.

poitive and negative reputation with superpowers decays from hotile to unfriendly, and from alliend to friendly, before decay stops.

I'm hostile to the pirate minor faction in my local favourite CNB and I haven't noticed any difference.

I only go in the CNB though, not tried in RES. DOn't think they control any stations.

Then you wouldn't know the difference, except that they show red on your radar. But if you went to RES, you'd find yourself attacked by them on sight, which is annoying and, naturally, potentially lethal.

Thanks for the informative replies, I think I'll let it drop into hostile, I don't really care if they shoot at me in RES sites It just sounds like I'll be making money faster since there are always a lot of cops around to help.

I`ve been landing at a couple of bases with suspiciously pirate-looking banners on them. I was wondering if they were pirates, but was relieved they let me dock since I needed the fuel. Talk about a sheep among wolves.
