Hot Type 6...

Just a simple qustion:

Is it possible to not light up the Type 6 like a christmastree every time I activate the FSD?

If you get a better power plant, this will reduce the heat output from the FSD somewhat. But the Type 6 is known to run 'famously hot' so don't get your hopes up.

All the ships "light up" during FSD charging even the Cobra which can idle at sub 40% peaks at over 80% in optimum conditions but the L6 is a bit of a toaster! ;)

I've just sold mine, but I concur, a better power plant will stop you exceeding 100% heat on FSD charging.

Replace the E class power generator, I found that fitting a D did the trick, you get to about 98% heat on spooling up the FSD, will be less with a better one.

Well I upgraded the powerplant and it seems to have fixed the problem. just to be sure I fitted a heat sink launcher for special occasions haha. thank you guys :)

I also intend to upgrade to a better ship (ASP) when I have sufficient funds. However Im still recovering from the ASP I lost due to a stupid pilot error that occured while engaged in combat with a hostile Python.

Yet Im convinced that I will be able to achieve my goal in a timely fashion with the Type 6 and my momentary trade route which gives me about 100k credits profit per run.

All Lakons are a second away from self combusting. Coolest ship at the moment, literally and figuratively is the Clipper. Never even had a warning about overheating.

I run with a D power plant too- and tend to let the heat dip below 70% before kicking the Friendship Drive. That usually leaves me more or less bang on 100% as I make the jump. It's just one of the T6's foibles, it runs a little hot. It's not elegant, but it gets the job done :D

I really do like how FD have given the different ships their own personalities (sounds, quirks, etc.) For example, I remember flying the Adder and realizing the that cargo scoop was not well positioned. You had to aim above what you were trying to scoop. I was annoyed at first, but then learned to love the Adder and this quirk. I shouldn't have sold it :(

On that note, it's too bad we can't name ships. I get attached.

Mine always has the overheat warning no matter what. First jump is fine, then after that, it's 100% heat every jump. Not sure if there is a better power plant I can put in but since 1.1 it's annoying.

Thrusters are my last item to upgrade.

Just equipping (not using) 3 heatsinks on the utility mounts helps the T6 a lot. An A powerplant even more. The T7 runs cooler with A powerplant without the need for additional heatsinks.

I agree totally with both your points- I love the freighter crates in particular- they feel... lumpy. I forgot my second favoured name for a ship recently anyway- so hope that ability doesn't arrive before it returns to me :)

Oh, and yes, I can completely understand being unwilling to sell ships. I have kept my Cobra MK III because.. well, because Elite really. You have to have one of those. Trying to tell myself that no-one needs all three Lakons Ts, either, and that I should only ever own one of them at a time..

They've done a nice job with the ships, I'm really enjoying that aspect.

My asp runs at 38-39 degrees nominally so it is a good choice.

It's not as bad as the T7. That thing overheats whatever you do to it.
mines just fine, suggest you go to your local outfitters and do some upgrading. Namely a rated f's, distributor and power plant. Mine stays under 100 even after boost + jump.
