HOTAS 4 - help getting it to work please

Would somebody be kind enough to walk me through a step by step process to get my HOTAS 4 working in E: D, please.

I've done a cursory search but can't find how to get it to be recognised by Elite. It is selectable in the controls menu, but otherwise unresponsive in Elite.

I even wiped my CDR to try to get it working. Grrr.

You need to have the Hotas plugged in and 'on' when you start the game, else it won't be recognised.

Not sure if it matters if you also have a DS4 'on' as well - I don't when I play - I just have the Hotas.

Can you plug it in a computer to at least see if it's recognised there? There's a remote chance it could be faulty. Failing that you can download War Thunder, a free game that supports the HOTAS and see if it works in that.

As stated press the PS home button Before launching the game to assign the Hotas to PSN ID...
Then use the hat switch on the stick to navigate to the Elite icon then press x to launch the game on hotas continue to press x on the hotas at Elites next start menu...
You don't require the DS4 for anything more than turning on the PS4 because the PS4 keeps USB data pins disabled untill the dynamic menu loads...

The PS4 hotas 4 has a BLUE ring on the flight stick, Not sliver or white... If its another colour you were sold the wrong model in the box and it wont work at all on Elite dangerous on PS4...

Thanks for the replies. Your replies gave me the idea to power up the PS4 using the power button on the console rather than using the PS button on the DS4 controller - I have *never* just used the power button before. But that has sorted it thanks. Started my new CMDR and all is well with the HOTAS now.

Second screen app on mobiles can also wake from rest mode the console... and power it down... back into rest mode...
