Hardware & Technical Hotas advice

Hi all,

I recently upgraded from my trusty Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X, to the T.16000M FCS Hotas. my old one was getting a bit sqeaky, so decided to treat myself.

One thing I really don't like about the new Hotas is the throttle. It's one-way only. So, in order to reverse, I need to bind a button to reverse, and then push forward on the trhottle to go backwards, if you know what I mean!

The throtle on the old stick was much easier, in that it had a center stop, so it covered the full range, forward and backwards.

With the new stick, the throttle is a seperate device, so I'm wondering if anyone knows of another throttle I could buy which operates like the Hotas X did, with the full range?

Cheers :)

I am pretty sure you can set the throttle for full range, but it won't have the indent. You will need to put in a larger dead zone so you don't have to be mm perfect.
As for standalone full range throttles with an indent, I am unsure to be honest.

Yes, in the throttle section of the control options, if you expand it there is a drop down to decide whether it is full range or if you hold (or toggle) a button to change thrust direction. I too had to set a little deadzone for my X52 which I wish had a notch, but I got it down by muscle memory now anyway.

Damned if I can find it for you now but I recall when the T16000 came out that a few people posted threads on adding their own center stop for the throttle. As I recall one guy used a bit of velcro and another guy used some magnets.

I did try setting it to full range, but didn't tinker with the dead zone, I'll give that a try later. I did see a mod online where someone modded the throttle to give it the centre stop, but I don't fancy that really.

I have to admit, I am seriously considering getting another T-flight HOTAS X, it was much easier to use, I just don't like giving up so quickly!

Thanks for the advice guys :)

Took me awhile to get used to the FCS throttle--like you, I came from a HOTAS-X too. Today, I use a button to hold to engage reverse, and after a few weeks the new muscle memory was good to go. I wouldn't go back to the HOTAS-X myself--the T16000M gives you much more fine-grained control. I really couldn't fly FAOFF very well in the HOTAS-X, but it's a breeze in the T16000M...and once you mod the throttle with dampening grease, it's awesome. :)

Edit. I will admit that it occasionally makes landings....interesting. Using the button to reverse thrust works fine---unless the throttle has juice already, which means instead of going a little backward you sail completely out of your landing zone. But to me, having that HUGE range of motion for forward (which I'm doing 99% of the time) is incredible.

OP set some wider dead-zone around "center" for throttle and set it for full range. Add to this one key (on throttle to "zero" speed) and this way you will have smooth control. You can then use one from small sticks for lateral thrusters and large "pedals" for thrust (forward, backward ... very useful for FAOff and also when want only slowly push your ship forward, backward).

And small side advice: http://xedocproject.com/joystickcurves.html look on this and use it for tune joystick axe curves. You will see amazing difference without troubles which can happen when used original t.a.r.g.e.t software (piece of crap ...).

I got used to using the toggle button to reverse the throttle pretty quickly. But for quick maneuvers, especially in combat, I've started using the lateral thrust control much more. I've got it bound to the mini-stick and it can give me some hard reverse when I need it.

The lack of throttle detent and no joystick side mounted fire button are the only two flaws in the otherwise excellent product.
