Hardware & Technical HOTAS Desk mount for IKEA Malm desk?

My wife and I have a rather slick "office" space we put together recently, using malm desks w/ the drawers, some kallax shelves, and a countertop. Unfortunately, I am discovering that, while the MALM desk is great for day-to-day-use, mounting a HOTAS setup to it is a bit of a challenge since the drawers always prevent me from moving my throttle far enough to the left to be comfortable. So I went out to my little workshop in the garage and threw together this simple mount with some scrap 2x4's I found. Another catch here, is it has to be removable. I am using clamps to hold it in place right now.

My issue with what I built, is I feel like the stick and throttle are too high for my chair (which is at the highest position.

The Malm desk is incredibly common, so I am hoping someone here has come up with a better system than this.

Can you show what you came up with so far? I'm curious because I'm thinking about making desk mounts as well.

omg finally. Sorry guys, because I was a new user, I was unable to reply to my own thread, so I just had to stare at your requests and my own lack of forgetting to add the pictures to the original post for a day.

Anyway, here's what I have going on.

As you can see, because I have 3 monitors, I have to sit pretty centered on the desk, which is fine 99% of the time, except I am unable to clamp anything on the desk to my left due to the drawers. So what I rigged, was something that clamps under the available space on the desk (the shorter 2x4) and then the the longer 2x4 is free to extend the full length of the desk, in front of the drawers, which I then put my throttle/stick on.

GAHHHH! I don't have the rights to edit my own posts. Included the wrong picture for Mounted:

Here is is mounted, with my X45 in place. http://i.imgur.com/qFid6Me.jpg

Awesome, thanks for sharing. That doesn't look all too bad.

It's really not, but I'd like the sticks to be lower and preferably closer to the desk so I can move in more. Once I get it the way I really like it, I'll rebuild it better/more attractive woods.

If you can, remove the armrests from your chair and move the controls inwards. I'll see if I can remember to take a shot of my setup later.

Hmm, not sure if I am willing to sacrifice the armrests of my chair though. I work from home quite a bit (I'm a sysadmin with an awesome WFH policy) so I still have to use it for day to day work.

I found armrests to be some kind of 2/10 would not spend money on again kind of affair once they were gone.

And with that, battlestations (I hope all incriminating evidence is out of shot):

That is game configuration, I can just move them well out of the way by clamping them further to the left and right which gives ample room for productive computing.

I would buy those brackets in a heartbeat if I could actually put one on the left side of my desk. I just have this damn obstruction in the way. I could, on the other hand, possibly use the existing horizontal 2x4 I have and use that as a surface to clamp it onto instead of the desk itself. . I'll see what I can do.

Yeah those desk mounts are great, but way too expensive in my opinion. ONE mount is almost as expensive as my HOTAS, and I’d need two mounts…

Yeah, I agree that the price is pretty steep, but if you're stupid… ;) You're paying for small-scale manufacture, parts, flexibility, and ergonomics. You can easily put together low side mounts with a few pieces of wood and angle fasteners from the next hardware store, but having something that you can just slide out of the way gets trickier.

For Warthog owners it's especially neat, since the special plate mounts just the central mechanics part and you can then put the stick between your legs at a nice and low position. It's not so much possible with "normal" sticks that are married to a big, bulky box.
