Hotas problem - compromised firmware?

So, I just purchased a second hand hotas (x52 pro). Plugged it in and it seemed to install ok. Elite recognised it and I switched my controller to the new hotas. At that point, I lost control of the PC, as though another user had remotely taken control. A number of things happened in game - first dumping cargo immediately but then reporting contacts and then trying to log in to the store and buy Arx. Once on the desktop, it then tried to access windows defender and I cut power to the PC.

Looking at the windows update log, it seems not to have installed drivers for itself (although the regular dialogue box told me that it was doing that). Malwarebytes is finding nothing.

Has anyone experienced anything like this before? The obvious answer is that someone modified the hotas firmware in order to attack both the PC and also (weirdly) ED. I think it's the firmware as the PC functions normally with the hotas unplugged and I cannot find either downloaded malware or evidence that it downloaded anything, including drivers.

While that's the most obvious explanation, it also seems vanishingly unlikely. It implies someone spent a lot of time and money compromising a device in order to mess with the person they sold it to.

I would have too see it to believe it the only logical explanation I can nog together is volts drop causing a ghosting of inputs and would have thought the binding errors log file may have something to say about that ie dev not recognized or missing ect (cured via mains powered hub or reducing demand by turning off lights etc) or reducing devices plugged in
like you say just to much trouble to code an attack to firmware and a single event upset sounding more likely...………….

I did have a few strange ghosting issues and followed other CMDRs advice to buy a powered USB Hub and that solved most of the issues. You can also check under Game Controller Settings and possibly try to install a fresh official driver here: https://support.logi.com/hc/en-gb/a...oads-X52-Professional-Space-Flight-H-O-T-A-S-

Good luck,
