General / Off-Topic HOTAS problem:

I LOVE the HOTAS, let's get this out of the way.

Problem:

The Yaw is off-centered.
I fly FA-OFF, exclusively, so it is MUCH more noticeable. Not bragging, simply explaining how this is a a bit more of a problem.

Specifics:

On Deadzone (2 ticks from 0) the immediately noticeable problem is that my ship will yaw right, at 1% turning.
The evidence that it is off-centered is that it takes around 3% turn to yaw left.

So, basically resting my hand on the joystick, just by minimal force of any sort on the joystick, will yaw my ship to the right.

Why Deadzone Shifting is not an option:

It's now at current, already far too unbalancing while flying in any situation, such as docking, or flying in a straight line to
1. Keep the ship from yawing right.
2. Overcompensate for any action that requires a left yaw.

Further increasing the Deadzone will negatively impact both the ability to accurately yaw left, while offsettingly and acutely yawing right.

Tightening the tensioner does nothing to help, obviously. This is a hardware issue, that can't be covered under warranty, as I have no clue as to where the warranty information is, or any interest in fixing a product that could just as easily be broken again if it means sending it away. I'd much rather handle it myself, if possible.

Question to the community:

Is there anyone out there experiencing a similar problem?
Advice other than "Deadzones"?
Any kind of guide involving dismantlement and reassembly to alleviate this problem?

Thank you in advance, CMDRs. o7

P.S.
All personal gripes moving forward.
I do wish M$ would open the gates to allow actual HOTAS support, rather than just their own product with the little "X" on it.
This is a decent setup, for entry, but at no point was I interested in something to flimsy. I plan on getting a better model for PC, when my build is ready, but until then, I am left with a minorly broken plastic eggshell that I personally wish was never released. If it came with an in-console calibration, this would be fine, however releasing a HOTAS with no calibration diagnostic, is a poor choice for the enthusiast.
I would like to avoid leaving the Xbox platform, as it is where my player faction is, but the outcry has been met with sub-optimal, overpriced re-release of 10+ year old hardware.
If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself, they do say.
I'd hoped to stay on the Xbox, and the PC, which I may do, but I just may not be using the HOTAS that Thrustmaster has provided Microsoft if Microsoft isn't willing to expand their bias in games away from FPS.
*Raises picket sign* "Flight Sim Enthusiasts need love too!"

This bone of a HOTAS we've been pelted with is both a blessing and a curse. Do not quiet down in asking for more support. I won't.

Bongo with the save.

There seems to be a common issue with the yaw. It's covered by a two year manufacturer's warranty, just contact your point of purchase. I had a similar problem

Sorry for doublepost.

Bongo, any tips?:

I had a friend pick me up this, a state over, from a MicroCenter.
I don't have the receipt, either.
Is there any way I could get around these facts?
Still have the box it came in, as reference to any of the numbers on it.

(Ah... Forums with Automerge... Lol)

Hmm, Thrustmaster will tell you to contact the supplier, it's best to ring them if you can, they may accept a return without a receipt. I wouldn't know how to fix the problem myself

Ah, I checked the box. It has a sticker on it that has the name of the person who it was sold by specifically. I'll give em a ring. Thanks!

Yeah, I have (had) a similar issue.

How stiff is your stick? Ooh er!

Not at all. I play fast and loose.

I've tightened the tensioner, but that had done nothing.

I'm currently looking for a teardown video, as the place of purchase, was bought by someone else, without receipt, a state over, with no way to get there.

So, I need to figure this out firsthand.

That's good, that you have it loose. In that regard you shouldn't change a thing.

Yeah, that's the problem. The yaw's "Zero" is skewed, and I can't seem to understand why. I might pull it over to my PC and possibly do some troubleshooting there.

I own Pedals, never used them, might be 'forced' to switch. I don't like the idea, as I have serious back problems (Spinal surgery in the L vertebra)

UPDATE!!

I hooked the HOTAS up to my PC.

Checked the Yaw there. NO PROBLEMS.

I blame Microsoft for this. Bad drivers, no calibration support.

Grrrr...

Clarification:

On Xbox: See above

On PC: Yaw=Value:RZ Axiz/Twist
<1% both left and right twist, no problems at all. Minor inputs, yield perfect results. Resting location proves no input.
This does not reflect the Xbox's problems in the slightest.

Next test is going to have to be the USB port on my Xbox.

Update Further:

Day 3, Captain's log...

No irregularities on scanners. Ship's stabilizers show no anomalies.

I will likely be losing sleep over this..

I have been experiencing the exact same problem which has been very infuriating, so much so that it has actually stopped me playing. At the moment, my only solution is to re-learn how to fly with my Xbox controller and as anyone who has used HOTAS can appreciate, that is not something I want to do.

Reassured by the possibility of it being covered under warranty but not sure if I still have the box.

If thurstmaster don't have any local stock they Will NOT issue a replacement they will issue a Pay pal refund, they also will not want the unit back... when you contact them this can be an option they will offer some times...
This has happened with the PS4 units...
They will want you to disable the unit to prove its unusable and want photo reference to prove its been fully disabled with cables cut, then they will offer a refund... so if you do contact them be aware they may want you to do some jumping through hoops first...
The main reason for this is because they don't produce units locally and shipping a single unit costs them way to much... Instead you get the refund cost for buying a new unit at the online retail of their choice...
Current Amazon price nomaly...

If you get unlucky they will want a full return and you get a refurb build instead as they just happen to fix a bulk returned from retail stock left overs...
