HOTAS Tips and Tricks here

Yesterday my Saitek X52 arrived from Amazon, I've been using an Xbox One controller to play over the past few months and thought I'd pay for something to get me a little more immersed. I thought I'd open a thread up to allow any HOTAS veterans to give hints, tips and bindings etc. to the newbies like myself. I, personally, have been trying to get comfortable in the training missions as well as fiddling with numerous bindings (as there's a lot of buttons on the X52). So feel free to post below!

TL;DR: Feel free to leave tips and tricks for new HOTAS users here.

The "detent" or resistance push in the throttle can be very easily removed with minimal effort. It makes the throttle a lot easier to use. Google removing X52 throttle detent for some really good vid's on how to do it. For me it turned a good hotas into a great hotas.

Fairly obvious I suppose but when coming up with a set of bindings try to logical group them e.g. a dedicated hat for power management, thrusting, power management, misc-combat(chaff/heatsink/cells), targeting etc. Also think about which functions your going to be using at the same time and assign them to hats/buttons you can operate independently e.g. dont mix thrusters and any other combat critical function on hats operated by the same thumb.

Make your stick more sensitive at lower pressures, using the software provided, to make controlled flying easier. The thrustmaster x needs an external program called joystick curves. Adored tv has a youtube vid on it.

Don't think you need to spend vast amounts of money on your first setup. You may hate it and realise you prefer M&K or an Xbox controller. What works for others might not suit you, and starting small lets you figure it out with less risk (for example I much prefer twist sticks for rudder/yaw to pedals *shrug*).

I set the curves up so they are less sensitive at lower pressures... Made it much easier to make smaller controlled adjustments and keep your sights on your target. Worked well for me as I found myself always over compensating when the axis was flat.
