Note to moderation: not sure if this is the best place for this. I checked other subs and didn't find anything else, but if you think there's some place more suitable, then please move there.
So, as many of you, I have the Thrustmaster HOTAS X. As everyone of you knows, the cable that connects the throttle to the joystick is shorter than the time it takes for a certain wizard to wipe out your ship.
So, I cut the cable. Yeah, cut it. Remember this voids your warranty, and in Europe you get 2 years of that sweet warranty, which is now gone, for me.
I used RJ45 connectors to have something I could plugin and out when needed. On my cockpit I have two male to male connectors in a permanent position, but can also use the same male to male connectors to use it say in a desk. I did it this way because it was free (as in I had all the required stuff already at home - is not completely free mind you!).
This is the end result.
First you cut the cable and put the RJ45 connectors. There's 15 cables, so you need two (there's also a metal one, ignore it).
Then add some female connectors on your cockpit to connect the two parts of the HOTAS.
Then connect the two halves to the newly installed connectors!
A closeup from the undercarriage of my ship.
