[HOTAS-X] Multi-stage primary trigger?

Got my spanking new Thrustmaster yesterday as a replacement for my dead X55. Loving the hell out of it and I'm noticing the primary trigger seems to be multi-stage?

I'm not even beginning to hope I can make any use of that in ED but how bloody cool would that be, e.g. stage 1 two beams, stage 2 four beams etc.?

I haven't found a use in E D but in DCS having it activate the lock target / laser paint target and then launch missile works.

You could likely get it to work with some tweaking, but the drawback is that you'd lose the use of one of the other triggers or have to bind it to something that isn't a weapon/fire group. ED only supports two triggers, even on the PC, because some people like to use Xbox controllers, etc.. and it wouldn't be 'fair' for people with a HOTAS to be able to actually use them the way they were designed to be used.

Lets not get started on the irony inherent in that decision, given their promotion of the X-52, right down to it being duplicated on the flight deck of your ship. LOL

Thanks all for their response.

I have of course not thought this through and Monsieur Valethar is of course right on the money: ED only has two triggers. Didier sad.

The "two triggers only" limit of ED makes it barely usable in practice: you have to bind 2 unrelated things on the same trigger. So you have to go through the "stage 1" action before being able to use the "stage 2" action (Which means "waste something", in most cases, usually weapon energy)

You'd think that would be useful for the Vulture in dual lasers, as you could fire either 1 or 2 lasers using the same button, without actually wasting a fire group, but even that is not possible (at least not without macros): each laser is bound to only one fire mode. So you'd need a macro mapping Stage 1 to button A, and Stage 2 to button A + B.

So... Not really useful in ED, unfortunately.

"Fairness" can't be the official answer, right? I mean, not seriously? There are so many differences already between using HOTAS/Head Tracker/<Name your device> vs using M/K or Joypad that, certainly, having 4 fire groups instead of 2 (Or, even better: Unlimited fire groups) would only be a detail compared to what already exists in terms of differences.

So hotas-X now has a two-stage trigger? When did that get introduced? Mine is 8 months old and doesn't have that. Should I look for an "unrepairable fault" and ask for a warranty replacement? ;)
