Hotkey for Weapons Lock (Forward Fire)

Hi Cmdr’s

I’ve been playing now for just on 3 months and think I have now climbed the steepest of the learning curve and am now trying to refine my gameplay.

The one item that I am battling with is when an enemy NPC drops chaff my turreted weapons go berserk (as expected). From watching YouTube I’ve seen folks switching to forward fire with what looks like a keybinding, but for the life of me I can’t find this setting. Is it available for the consoles and am I just being blind?

If not, how do you folks get around this because to hold square, right dpad a few times, find turret mode, change it.......seems a bit tedious in battle as by the time I’m back in the cockpit the chaff has dissipated.

It’s just un-selecting your target (press ‘x’), then your weapons will fire straight.
I haven’t toyed with turrets so don’t know if un-selecting a target wil make them stop firering. Maybe depends on the behavioral settings (right screen monitor)

Turrets in target only mode wont fire unless there is a target selected. With gimballed weapons if you deselect your target they will fire forward.
If you want turrets to fire forward you have to select that from the functions tab in the status panel, a keybind would be nice, but i dont know of one.

But deselecting ones target and continuing to fire puts a bounty on ya and a muder rap if ya destroy them now, right. I received my first and probably not my last when I continued firing on a ship even though I had properly scanned him and he was wanted, when he did something and I lost targettng. And then noterity class one, when I destroyed him. But then, it was he that casued me to loose targetting, it wasn't me that caused it, so that might be a difference.

Well thats good to know, dont let em die when not targeted.

Lol, that's horribly broken...
means if I attack a player, then start to lose I cant fire a chaff and/or put my ship in silent running and can give him a bad rap?
Could be a new contest - "Grieving with a sidewinder": either you successfully tickle a big ship to death or your lose a few K and the other one is now wanted.

Are you sure there wasn't something else... another ship in the area?

I lose targeting all the time, switch off gimbal or switch fire groups to fixed and have never had that happen. I have, however, fired on nearby ships crossing my line after losing targetting.

The best way you can do is go to settings and make a hotkey to target the next system/station or what it now called. Then you can press that key to "unlock" your target so your weapon will forward fire. Im not sure if it is the best way in a battle, but it can work for you for now. Also, not sure if it works on turreted weapons too

Yep!
+ Last patch alowed to fire unpunished 'Wanted' ship even if you dont know it is wanted.

NO, friendly fire has been increase, but continuing to do so, can and will get one a bounty. Continuing to shoot an unscanned ship and or an untargeted ship will eventually get one a bounty and if the ship is question is destroyed, one will get noterity. If one looses targetting, they must retarget said ship or it's the same as shooting a clean ship. Where as one can only kill a wanted ship or else receive noterity. Looseing targetting cause them to in a sense to be no longer wanted. That's how I managed to get my first and hopefully last piece of noterity, I got caught up in a fight and continued to shoot the dude, eventually killing him. It happened in a uss and there was only he and I involved. I had scanned him, he was wanted and I opened fire, somehow in the process, I lost targetting and continued to shoot him. After wards continued to the station, cashed in my bounty I had received for killing him and noticed that I had one on my head, I had received some damage, and wasn't able to repair becasue I had noterity. The event happened on the day of the update, everything was new, thus I couldn't figure out just what or why I had received a bounty and what the heck is noterity. A hard lesson to learn so soon after a new update. But it hasn't happened since, so apparently I learned my lesson.

Yeah that is indeed the way it seems to work, im doing the bounty hunting cg.

Then the issue must have been fixed with the last patch, because, I received my first piece of noterity shortly after launch of then new update, when I lost targetting and continued to shoot and eventually killing him in the process. I know friendly fire limits have been increased to a cerain point, but to continue after that point gets one a bounty and if destroyed, noterity. An unscanned ship is considered clean, to continue shooting a clean ship and or an untargeted ship, leads to a bounty. If one looses targeting, they must retarget.
