House of the Dying Sun

I mean it isn't elite in scale obviously but it's fun.. and that's what a game is supposed to be. It isn't supposed to be a job / chore to accomplish anything it should be a FUN CHALLENGE.

Meh. Both are vastly different games with ridiculously different scope. No need to bash Elite just because a fun single player shooter came out. It'd be like bashing House of the Dying Sun for not having trading, a 1:1 scale galaxy, or planetary landings.

Now, the mission designers might definitely be able to get some inspiration from it along with the old Lucasarts stuff.

Speaking of old Lucasarts stuff, swapping the axis stuff really DOES make it feel more Tie Fighter-esque, I was just playing that recently and it's great to have that feeling back.

Congrats to the developer for making it this far, it's such an accomplishment for a one man dev team... to have the ambition is one thing, to come out with a playable early access game is another! Looking forward to seeing how this develops... and what he does next!

I wasn't able to get the commands set up last night as I use multiple controllers, but I will say I've never had my Logitech headset vibrate with base sounds before, but HDS buzzed my ears off with ships ripping by. Took my completely by surprise and sounded phenomenal.

It looks great in the Vive. Hope they can sort out the multiple controller thing soon.

There's basically a flag in the controller middleware they use (Rewired) to enable the use of multiple controllers at once. If their UI then supports multiple controllers, it will be plain sailing.

If you want it to feel more like X-Wing or Tie Fighter just bind the Left Stick X Axis to do Roll as well as Yaw at the same time. Works a treat and ensures that I don't get too confused when switching between Elite's and their scheme.

yeah i had to map as much as i could in the same mindset as elite.. but then i get confused switching between different windows on my desktop :S lol

What? MIKE! YOU TRAITOR! ;)

BTW I dunno about mixing the two. Coming from elite, having the stick perform exactly the same (twist=yaw, X=roll, Y=pitch) works best for me. Heck I even set up the SRV controls in Elite to match the ships, so I twist to turn. Makes it very intuitive to control the SRV while airborne.

YMMV of course.

Some of us steer SRVs with our feet :). Mileage very much dependent on whether you run into a Goliath and get your legs knotted.

Elite needs more complex missions like House of the Dying Sun.

I just use a flight sim yoke for driving and the rest of my CH gear for flying in Elite. Ah the power of CH Control Manager....
