how a PROPER gas giants looks like - Frontier, we're keeping fingers crossed for a 4.0 release ;)

I'd quite happily accept colour-enhanced planets like the pictures over what we currently have.

I can quite easily pretend that the ship HUD is doing it for the purposes of my own personal immersion.

Wow that's really beautiful. However I think it might be a little computationally expensive? It looks like it could be done with a massive fluid simulation but fluid sims are really kind of heavy on the cpu. I hope Fdev find's a way to do it though it would be amazing to have gas giants look like that up close.

Take a look at the Pillars of Creation from NASA, not at all as flying there in ED. Computer enhancement is a pretty thing that the naked eye could never see.

Agreed that it's beautiful. Really beautiful.

And wishing I'd had the foresight to use your avatar as my commander name.

Also, something that struck me when played this week when I visited a double water world system - water worlds have no clouds! In reality they should be almost complete blanketed in cloud systems! The definitely look very weird as it is at the moment, completely devoid of any cloud at all

Most water worlds do have clouds, although some don't. Some of them are even completely shrouded in clouds.

According to many people on here, season 3 Beyond is just warming up, so I'm sure this will be fixed and will be flying around in them sometime in 2019.

I think we can expect Gas Giants getting their very much wished overhaul by the time Frontier introduces us Gas Giant mining.

X Rebirth had epic space graphics. Planets had moving clouds and storms, but the Gas Giants were not just spinning around, they were vibrant and very much alive.

Here's to hoping!
