Engineers How about a Materials Exchange?

Just a thought, but how about a separate exchange option in each station.

This is where you can exchange commodities for similar types of rarity?

No money exchanges hands, so mega rich players don't have an advantage.

But for players who have been searching for hours for Arsenic and got Sulphur instead could swap - maybe at a 2 or 3 to 1 exchange rate for the item they want?

That way people who find the search challenging can collect items and then swap them?

A variant is maybe this exchange is only available at Engineers bases rather than galaxy wide. The rate of exchange may fluctuate with what tier mod the item is used for, or even allow you to trade in a large amount of commons for a very rare eg, 20 Iron for 1 Technetium?

This still means you have to collect stuff, but that elusive item isn't hidden begind 400 hours of searching, but is obtainable at a price of using up some of your currently unwanted materials, plus it allows you to winnow out your store of materials to hat you are focusing on.

The drawbacks are the potential for people to exchange everything in their supply to give them 50 attempts at a specific mod, so they can get the very very best result they have, but as was seen in Beta videos by Kornelius, Chaoswulf etc. They had to do lots and lots of crafting to get the very best of a modules options. I am not sure if this would create some sort of uber player arms race.

The other issue is determining a correct exchange rate - I don't think 1 for 1 is an option, but Devs could look at the items availability and make it slightly higher in exchange for other similar items.

The exchange for next level up may also be a bit OP, as a player of The Division the initial exchanges from common to rare etc were tweaked as players were farming low drop areas and then getting this churned into materials that could make powerful items.

Benefits, less angry players who spend hours trying to get certain items and rant on the forums, only to be goaded by some other lucky so and so that got all they needed in 60 mins of gameplay.

This exchange also acts as a soak for the storage limit players have - get 150 Iron you don't need then exchange for items you do without the issue of wasted time.

Not sure what people would make of this but I expect a full and frank exchange of views from the more regular on these forums! :-D
 
Nope great Idea, A friend and I were just discussing this idea last night so glad you posted it. Doesn't even have to be player driven if that makes it easier on FD. Just create an exchange in the commodity market and let players exchange x amount of y for x amount of z. Would be great!
